303 "surplus"

there use to be a fellow in town that sold S&W 38 and surplus 303 for $20 a paper bread bag full . The 38 was kinda green , LOL but it still worked in my old E Tankers. The 303 was a mix of everything from FMJ to Armour piercing . We use to go out & blast off 1,000 rounds between me & my buddys a day...with NO ear or eye protection !

I was just in wainwright Walmart yesterday and saw Winchester .303 British for 26$ a box. Federal was $30. If I wasn't in the field and could ship it back I would do a few boxes because back in Petawawa, Best I've seen was like 36$ a box.

Very hard to find, even factory as it doesn't seem to be a common round any more. So, I started reloading which has been pretty simple, neck size only so brass lasts longer. Components seem easy to find.

Unless some secret stash is found and imported in to the country, reloading with cast projectiles is about the cheapest options to shoot .303 en masse for now.

It can be found..... I have built up a pretty decent pile of all over the map from old ivi to new sp.... For the last few years Ive bought anything at $1 a shell or less.... I must admit a good chunk of it is old stuff in original boxes I don't think I want to shoot.... So here I sit waiting for Canam to hook us up....

Possession of stolen DND property isn't a great thing to admit to online.
It isn't stolen. What part of "here's 500 rounds of Ivi soft point for hunting" do people not understand? DND gives the rangers all the "leftover" ammo when they leave town. There is absolutely no theft involved. Wtf do you all think they leave soft point rather than fmj? They expect it to get used for hunting/trade whatever. They don't sign a statement saying "I won't trade or sell all this crappy 303 ammo you left me for decent 270 rounds to hunt moose". Find me the signed form or stfu. This bit about "stolen" 303 ammo seems to be a joke on whitey, cause the locals don't see it that way. Show me the form or stop repeating this bull. You may be right in legalese but good luck taking a Cree from chip to court for trading his stash of 303 for 308. Anybody been busted for Ivi they got off a ranger? Links?

Hear what your saying but....wow.

I agree with the "wow" part! It seems to be a bit of an elephant in the room. Mods shut any discussion down about Ivi from what I've seen (3,2,1). Not sure why, 100k+ of 303 Ivi floating around the north. Folks up there don't seem to have a problem selling/trading it. No dnd or police involvement, could it be a double standard?

Lack of enforcement.

It's DND property. If a Ranger gives/trades/sells it to someone it's theft, regardless of whether or not everyone does it.

They cannot "trade off" their rifles, they are issue kit. Return when you quit... consumables like ammo, cleaning kits, boots etc are issued on an as need basis. No return required. Most Rangers got 20 boxes of 303 180 gr sp issued after training for "practice", in the old days they used it for hunting. Not too many guys carry their no4's for moose, they've upgraded to fancier calibers. So most northern communities are awash in 180gr sp Ivi. Good brass for sure. The issue is the legality of it. Never heard of anyone getting busted for possessing ranger ammo, but what do I know...
