Before there was even such a thing as "restricted", and this used to reside in a rack in the back window of my pickup 24/7 and nobody really noticed or cared. And most importantly, it didn't murder kittens by the hundreds all by itself.

Makes todays NR black rifles look like a bargain though. I dunno what compounded inflation on $979 is in 2017 dollars, but I bet it's more than I spent on my Tavor.

Anyone else have old invoices from back when there was just a paper FAC that you had to mail in before they'd ship your rifle out?

Man. I got into trouble with a cassette of the month club. I can't imagine how much trouble I would have got into with a Gun of the Month club....

Your not kidding the good old days. I remember begging my dad to get one when I was 9 when you bought yours. Man I miss the 80's. Even though the ship was turning the wrong direction when I was growing up. Wish I could go back in time. I would have ordered an abundance of Colt Steyrs hk fal uzis etc.

Ummm, there has been "Restricted" firearms since approx. 1935, and even with the advent of the FAC in 1978, there were a lot of restricted and then new grandfathered, now 12.2 class.

And it wasn't long after this receipt, that ARs were changed to Restricted class, but to then later change back to non-restricted, and then yet again, re-classified as Restricted.

That cost would be commensurate with today's pricing for an average AR/C7 rifle.

It's interesting as a newer licensed owner, I remember being in my teens living in Fort St. John and seeing many trucks with rifles in the racks. We moved to Southern BC and I remember seeing the same then it stopped. I didn't think anything of it at the time but it does coincide with the ban / extra control early 90s.

Lol Ditto.
I remember begging my dad in '87 or '88 to buy an AR-15 SP1 with the triangular handguards and 20 round magazine for like....$499 displayed at the local McLeod's Hardware gun rack in the back by the toy and sporting goods sections. I used to stand there and drool over that rifle displayed amongst the wooden stocked bolt action, lever action and pump action long guns on the rack.
His response was "I'm not paying $500 for something made of plastic and aluminum" and he bought the Crossman BB and .177 pellet "AR" instead.

I paid $675 for a Colt AR15A2 back in the '80's. Pretty sure that one accounted for more than its fair share of coyotes and gophers too. Those truly were the good ole days. I remember hunting with an FN too.

Alot of guys i know stopped due to the BS and later on not registering. Everything went from the window rack to under the seats :p

I purchased my Colt AR15 for 500.00 in the mid 80's, it is defiantly worth more then that now.

I once hunted with a G3 (military version of the HK-91) and 20 RD mag of 150 gr silver tips. Got a nice deer with that combo in the Peace River area with 1 shot. The other 19 shots were just in case LOL. Can't do that now!!
