Ok guys I need some help.. I'm fairly
New to AR s . I bought a brand new rifle, over 2 years ago. Sadly
It has sat in my safe this whole time With a new vortex spitfire optic on it . Well today was the big day and I finally Took it to the range . I got it to shoot acceptable groups at 100 yards BUT looking thru the Optic I can see that the front sight is canted way off to the left .. Is this a problem that can be corrected or did I buy a lemon . I didn't want to spend big bucks on my first Ar 15 . But It is really annoying to look at every time and now I don't know what to do. Send it back ? Send it to a gunsmith? Buy a different upper ?
Thanks
.

Grind the gas block to a lowpro and install longer freefloat handguard

:d

Don't grind it off, go to the local gun shop and buy a gas block without the sight for $50-$60. It should be a 0.75 inch gas block saddle and it's easy to change, you may need a new gas tube pin as well but they are cheap.
If you remove your optic you should be able to see if the front sight is canted. Either way, grinding will work but it looks terrible and I'm just guessing here but since you bought a Norinco I doubt you want to spend $200+ on a free float handgaurd. It won't improve the accuracy enough to justify the cost so unless you bought it as a base platform to build from (which isn't the best idea since Norinco is known for being off-spec instead of mil-spec) I would just leave it stock other than getting rid of the front sight gas block and replacing it with a different one. You can also install a railed gas block so you can install flip up sights if that option sounds better.

Bottom line, grinding would be my last resort and I would pursue other options first. If you find that the gas block saddle is not in spec at 0.75" then grinding makes more sense but for the cost of a basic gas block it's worth the money. Also, if your gas block is canted it probably means the barrel was drilled for the taper pins incorrectly so you'll want a gas block that uses set screws instead of taper pins.
You don't need an adjustable gas block either, just keep it simple and get back to shooting, all the money you spend on gizmos translates into less ammo and sending projectiles down range will improve your shooting more than any tacticool goodies.

So, I replaced my front handguard with a free floating one on my Windham. A friend of mine, and myself, removed the front site tower with a punch set I bought from TNA.

It was a pain the butt, those pins are really in there. We ended up nicking the outside of the barrel, but luckily the low pro gas block covers it up.

Bottom line is if it really annoys you (because your issue would drive me nuts) take the gun to a decent gunsmith and have them try to straighten the tower.

Let me get this straight. The rifle shoots just fine but you're worried if you bought a lemon?

It doesn't even sound like you shot with iron sights so what exactly is the issue? If you shot with iron sights and couldn't zero it because of the cant than that's another story.

obviously hasn't shot with the irons (spitfire optic)

or I don't think he would be asking?

if you did shoot it with irons and get decent groups the sight isn't off its your eyes haha

That's what I was thinking, dismal results makes me think that yet another guy bought a Norinco and it is jamming, mags won't fit, when it does shoot it groups like a shotgun. A front sight slightly out of alignment is a minor inconvenience that is easily corrected.

The Norc rifles are cheap noise makers that resemble 'real' guns that are good for weekend entertainment.
Their shotguns like the Grizzly are OK for serious use because they don't require high precision.
It ain't a $2500 Tavor by a long shot.

You get whatyah pay for.
I owned a few norcs in my day and did some weekend warrioring popping off 1000s of rounds of the cheap chinese 223 and 7.62 x 39 ammo at the local gravel pit.
I was happy if they'd hit one of those big white plastic bleach bottles at 10 yards or a tin can at 5.
Probably bought and sold a dozen of them over the years.
I wasn't expecting precision and perfection from a $200 gun.

A crooked front sight not discovered to two years is considered dismal results? Bud, you are SOL. If you don't like it, then replace the barrel with something you do. No retailer in their right mind would, or even should, take it back after that much time. If the gun shoots well enough then that's really all that matters. Also, you bought a Norinco. You get what you pay for, and you didn't pay much, so don't expect perfection.

You fired a Norc CQ at a gravel pit?

T97, M305, norinco SKS with their matching chinese ammo are fine for gravel pit fun. And yes, Canada use to be less retarded and trusting of its citizens and allowed them to use ARs and AKs in the wild

I have a StrikeFire red dot on my AR, depending on the angle I hold the rifle and how I look through it, the red dot rarely aligns with the front sight post. It will only line up perfectly at that perfect angle/alignment, the bullet goes where the red dot lands.

Sight in the red dot and ignore the front sight post. Put the carry handle back on or buy a flip up rear sight to go along with the front sight post.
