Here is the list of rifles, which accept AK47 mags:
1. SKS by Kodiak Defence (SKS-KD).
A) Distributed by WESTRIFLE at around 550-630 CaD w/ shipping and taxes (wood-ATI/folding/plastic w/ one plastic Israeli mag)
B) This is mostly an original SKS with some work to the bolt and mag well done to accept AK47 mags. Bolt hold open option removed
C) May have mag feeding issues, and it is due to the mags. Mags may work right of the box or require 200-300 rounds to break through and work nicely.
D) Pros-SKS platform= simple + reliable (well this one is modified, so may be not as reliable). Price is a pro too. Made in Canada-for me it is a PRO. CONS: require significant improvements to the plastic stock and 200-300 rounds for some mags to work properly. Heavy as any SKS. Mag release is stupid, though extended and improved, but not an AK-style. No bolt hold open (just like in AK) and AK bolt hold open mags do not work

2. PSA KS47 10.5 and 7" barrel.
A) Distributed by IRUNGUNS at around 1000 CaD (w/ shipping + taxes)
B) This is an AR-15 style rifle with exception of AK47 mags, charging handle mod and mag release button. Of coz it is 7.62x39. Not sure if it has bolt hold open
C) There is no a single Canadian review of it on u-tube...
D) Pros: mostly an AR-style controls, feel and "LEGO"-possibilities. pretty easy weight. Cons: Potentially has mag feeding issues and it is not due to the mags, but rather due to the bolt itself. Quite pricy. Not made in Canada.. well at least it is made in N. America-so kind of a plus. Restricted :(

3. M14-M305a.
A) Distributed by MARSATR at around 830 CaD (w/ shipping + taxes)
B) M14 based rifle with same controls, just different chamber and mag well adapted for AK47 mags
C) There are only two videos on u-tube about it-both from MARSTAR
D) Pros: cannot think of any except AK47 mags. Cons: very pricey for something without tactical stock, very very heavy-worse than SKS. Disassembly is the worst of the three here. Not sure about reliability and FTF/FTE, mag issues etc

Are there any other AK47 mag friendly options readily available in CANADA?

* Please don't discuss (unless you post a link where to buy them) SKS-M/ SKS-D-regular people cannot buy those as they are not readily available from any store here in CANADA...
* Please don't discuss type81/ WR762/ VZ58/ etc as they take proprietary mags-so not a good option for SHTF

VZ58 is an excellent platform. Yes mags are proprietary, but thats why you buy a lot of them. Also you get the bolt hold open. For a "canadian shtf" your more likely to find VZ58 pattern magazine that AK. But again if shtf, I'd go with a standard AR15.

In your review of the PSA KS47, one of the cons to add is the fact that its restricted

Thanks-updated re: restricted status of KS47 :)

if shtf, then there is unlikely Canadian SHTF, but rather global or N. American SHTF, so ak mags will bit any VZ or type 81 in terms of availability-just IMO

if SHTF the last thing I would grab is an AK pattern rifle. Think about it ! do you want to lug around X39 rounds. they are bigger and heavier and take up more room than 556 rounds...

AR platform may be quite capricious if no cleaning
Look at SKS bolt and bolt carrier-and compare moving parts to an AR.. which one is more likely to fail with brutal treatment?
I don't think it is an SKS

X95 and ACR can go thousands of rounds without cleaning. My X95 is pushing 3K rounds and I have yet to take it apart...lol... I wouldn't say they are capricious at all...lol...

BY THE WAY
SIWASH SPORTS IS SELLING DELUX SKS-KD for 589 only (before tax/shipping), which is amazing price:

I personally do not like the original rear sights gone and not a proponent of such a rail as it is still worse than a side mount to the receiver
and if you go with such a rail that is present on delux.. then why to have the front sight and not to chop it the f... out?

Anyways-589 is a nice price and that rail may be sold, if you don't like it

man, you have to clean it
But if it is as you say-than it should be fine.. the other problem is the price for those, right?
I am buying a basic AR15-M+P sportII, just in case too
X95-sure.... the price is a bit interesting

I spend more a training and ammo. Most people have tons of gear but have no clue how to actually use it under stress... lol... Price is irreverent when it comes to being ready for SHTF.

Carried an AR platform (C8) for 18 months in Afghanistan and nevee had any issues that some range commandos seem to talk about. Been using an AR platform for the last 14 years and with minimal maintenance, never had troubles. Used it in the sand, snow, dirt, mud, wet weather, parachuted and hard landed with it. Went thru a lot of rounds with standard capacity magazines. ####ing automatic end of fiscal year ammo dumping and... A boat load of blank ammo... -_-

Weapons dont fail but their user do

If I had to choose between an AK and an AR to protect myself and my family, I'd pick an AR in an heartbeat.

AR vs SKS vs brutal treatement ? Well a 30rds magazine Vs a 10 rounds fixed magazine... Sorry buddy, I would never carry an sks anywhere else than to a gravel pit for plinking.

7.62x39 is not a bad round, but if we want to expand on the "shtf scenario", most 7.62x39 is corrosive ammo and judging by all the threads about it, its seems like most people dont like/know how to clean corrosive ammo properly. Any oil will clean the AR.

In ....let's say 2 years of shooting corrosive ammo can anyone say with first hand experience what the condition of the rifle would be?
