Buis for 50bmg (Sept 22 Update)

I always wanted a 16" barreled 50BMG for the same reason (just cuz), but 8.5"! my hats off to you sir, that's gnarly. Definitely interested in the results. A 17" barrel (according to Anzio) should still do 2200fps I wonder what 8.5" will push?

I doubt very much, dont you need like at least 16" for all the powder to burn? lol this is for shock and awe, why use a flashbang to clear a room when you can just walk in and start firing

Guy that goes by Otokiak had iron sights on one of his PGW LRT-3s, but since Photobucket's taken a $hit, I can't find pics of it. And it was a short barrelled custom for hunting Narwals.

Not his, but a shorty 50BMG

I expecting it to drop like a stone and have three feet of flame from each side so I really cant wait for it to be finished but Iv only bought the barrel and he hasn't contacted me yet so it may be a while but I want to get everything ready for it :) and it was iron sights or my strikefire 2 or both and a m14.ca RBS.

But thanks for the info on these sights I really knew nothing about them. Iv gone with a troy folding sight set I ordered it last night.

I was going to get a 12'' barrel as the thunder pistol has that but then I remembered those grizzly 8.5 shotguns that were NR and thought why not.

One of the best creations Ive ever had the honour of making, even Rob Furlong was impressed when he saw her, I wouldnt have ran any other muzzle brake on it other then Armalites AR50 brake, which is bar none the best brake on the planet for deflecting that pressure blast from the shooter, even offhand shooting was a dream, slugs out of a Remington 870 had more jam to them. I was using 660gr tracer rounds and it was a spectacular sight seeing them laser beam past the 500yard mark. The barrel onthe rifle pictures ended up being 16.5", I never ended up doing any ballistic testing for it unfortunately. Ive got a still image capture from an HD video that I recorded blown up and put in my living room as a constant reminder of just how badass she was.

Otokiak's was a 20", and the open sight set up came out excellent in its execution, I really do have to applaud PGW Steve with his mechanical wizardry for coming up with that setup, and was incredibly accurate, sub-moa with open sights was not an issue with that rig....

To the OP, I hope you really grasp the magnitude of what your getting yourself into, if you do not have an appropriate/suitable muzzle device for an 8.5" 50BMG I tell you what, I'll dial 9-1 and when you pull the trigger I'll dial 1 again lol jk :p I would also have to potentially suspect the mechanical longevity of such a creation exerting such a force on your receiver pins that fingers crossed they shouldnt shear off eventually down the road. Im sure Rick and the crew would alleviate alot of those possible issues.

I hope ya the best in your endeavour OP, playing with shorty 50BMGs is incredible no doubts there!

Its going on a non-restricted lower so hopefully it will hold but what I most worried about is a CPPF officer coming by and saying that's a sawed off which I think is a 3 or 4 year sentence so my paper from atrs is going where ever I go.

Ah yeah, I remember CGN's reaction to otokiaik's build...

Otakiak: I'm gonna put iron sights on this 50.

CGN: why the hell would you...

Otakiak: Gonna hunt narwhals.

CGN: <stunned silence>....

CGN: slow clap.

Ever heard of detached retinas? You will.
I would just throw an Aimpoint on top of it and skip the irons.

This would be very cool to shoot once or twice but I think the novelty will wear off in less than ten shots and you'll realize that you just wasted a lot of money building something you only want to shoot once a summer and that's also worth nothing on the used market.
I'm guessing that there will be so much powder still burning as the projectile leaves the muzzle it will destabilize the bullet and accuracy will suck, I hope you're an experienced handloader and are able to build some safe rounds with a faster powder that will actually give you some sort of performance, 8.5 inches isn't much time for a projectile to get moving in a cartridge that typically uses 26+ inches.

Sorry but to me this is another case of more money than brains. Just a guess, you drive a lifted/leveled diesel and think it's cool to roll coal? Not trying to be a #### or insult you but who else would come up with something so useless knowing how insane the muzzle blast will be and still go ahead with it.

But hey, that's just one old farts opinion, I hope you enjoy your toy and I hope to see some links to videos of you shooting it.
Good luck, play safe.

Oh I know it's a complete waste of time and resources but I WANT IT. I go by life with one rule TO EACH THEIR OWN but when I see a jacked up duelly I still scream WHY DID YOU DO THAT WHAT A WASTE..... so I still need to work on that.

For BUIS, the Central sight, popular with target shooters mounts on a steel side rail on the receiver. The rail can be quite small and unobtrusive.

It would work with whatever front sight yoi choose.

I have one, and a rail, that I could sell if you want it.

Well in that case I can't wait to see pics and a range report.
I understand the but I want it thought pattern, I buy lots of stuff like that but I'm just too practical to even consider a project like this.
Lol, my 6.5 inch AR had more muzzle blast than I cared to endure, I can't even begin to imagine what this thing is going to be like.

Do you know what the overall length will be with the stock you are using with the ATRS lower?

I'm still going to suggest a decent dot sight like an Aimpoint or something similar. Or a decent 1-4 power scope so you have a little magnification so you can print some groups at 100yds and ring steel out a few hundred. Ideally I'd put a sightron SIII 1-7 on it but it all depends what you actually plan to shoot at with this fire breathing monster.

It's going to be over 26" in length with a m14.ca stock and I went with troy folding sights because I didn't think my strike fire would last and would like to have as you said a fixed 4 power or 1-4 scope but I'll cross that issue when I get there.
As for what I'm shooting at it basically a boulder 321 yards away its where I take all my firearms to sight in.
