Brand? Maybe you should pick an action type and a budget first. A good friend has a Ruger #1 in .25-06 that is a beautiful rifle. Is that what you want?

I have a 25-06 single shot H&R Handi rifle that I really like but you would be hard pressed to find one of those these days as they stopped making them.
25-06 is a nice caliber but you need to decide what you want to do with the it and what kind of action would work best for that.

I have a Savage 116 Weather Warrior in 25-06. Not a pretty gun but it is is practically bomb proof. It has became my "go to" go anywhere, do almost anything gun. The Weather Warrior series is on the higher end of the price spectrum for "budget" rifles but you only get what you pay for. I have used it for yotes as far as 500+ yards so it is plenty accurate. Might be hard to find one for your $1000 budget now that the dollar has crapped out but still shouldn't be too far off. Not many places stock the Weather Warrior series. Most have the cheaper version without the accu-stock. I would check with irunguns as Canadian dealers stock sucks

Vanguard with a Redfield or Nikon scope, should be very close to your budget , the EE always has a couple there, some in new condition.

You could very likely get something in your budget from the EE.

My Ruger #1 stainless laminate is a 1" at 300 meter gun with the Fantastic Hornady 120 HP , Also have a Houge Howa that almost as accurate.

What do you guys think spend the high side of my limit on a wetherby vanguard 25-06 or pick up a savage axiss 2 and spend more money on a scope? I have a scope I can put on the weatherby but it's old and kinda ####ty.

Pardon my ignorance but what is EE?

EE is the equipment exchange forum. You have to apply for access and wait for approval but it's what most people are here for. Advice: take no one's word on value; always research.
I have an Axis 2 in 25-06 and I love it. But I picked it up at Cabela's at the boxing day sale a few years ago, with a mail in rebate. Took it home for just over 300. If you can get one at that price, jump at it. If not, go with the vanguard.
