"Person shaped" Silhouette targets - Illegal?

Many years ago, my range had changed the policy of shooting human targets. I discovered this while shooting zombie targets. I was told

Range officer: the CFO says we can't shoot human targets anymore.
Me: it's not human, it's paper

Range officer: but it looks human
Me: it's a zombie (it was a bin laden zombie)

Range officer: but it looks like somebody and it could offend that person or others
Me: what if I shoot targets that are enlarged pictures of myself?

Range officer: ...
Me: that's what I thought. Dumb rule.

I have since left that range due to dumb rules.

That is fantastic. Seeing that conversation first hand would have made my day.

Every range I have been to always have the no human rule. It makes no sense. Shooting human targets does not assist you in mass shootings or whatever reason they come up with. Its just ink and paper. The fact that we have to use a zombie loop hole is ridiculous.

I feel you on the dumb ranges rules. I shoot crown land because of dumb rules. The main ones being:

- no human targets. as mentioned its just stupid
- no more than 1 round per 3 seconds or whatever. My Enfield can shoot faster than that. Dumb rule if the person can handle it
- no steel core ammo for outdoor ranges.
- can't touch anything but yourself when the range is active

I don't know why ranges try to ruin things

The first time i heard this was from a BLM post that black targets train ppl to shoot at blacks only...

Ha, I have a friend who was a firearms trainer for a major Canadian city police force who got told the same thing.
So he changed all the targets to yellow for about a week, he being of Chinese ancestry thought that was hilarious.
The next time I shot with him he had actual pictures of people to use as targets, his favorite being one he called "pregnant Britney Spears".

Sherwood Park Fish and Game basically has the stance that no part of it can look human or be of a human silhouette, except Zombie targets where the face is distorted enough to not be "humanized" any more.

The only two exceptions are:
1. Sanctioned IPSC and other events can use these types of outlines.

Police in training while in uniform during a sanctioned training exercise may use "bad guy" and "hostage" type targets as long as they do not have human faces.

When Spruce Grove was open the only thing was the target could not have a human face, so I bought a bunch of "faceless" targets and IPSC targets and now I can't use them...

It all comes down to public image. The strange part is Sherwood Park range is member only, no public, no visitors and no guests... but they are still concerned about the far flung chance some snowflake will need a safe space after they see someone put rounds into a piece of paper or cardboard.

Not illegal, just house rules I guess.

One of my local range banned human shaped targets and another one have dozens of human targets for sale, including Bin Laden, Stalin among other famous("notorious" would likely offend someone if they can be offended by shooting illustrated human shapes) characters random zombies and stuff. I'm guessing at one point a liberal would enter a shooting range, ranting about the all evil anti-human act of punching through human shaped paper, the range would be too lazy to talk sense into it (again, "him" or "her" would likely offend it) and end up just change the rules and ruin it for every normal guy.

Silhouettes are not illegal , they sell them at Walmart ,CanTire and gun stores .

They are not allowed at my range either . I found a way around this ....

Baker Targets have animals with guns pointed at you . I prefer the Bad Hare Day target - it looks like armed gang member . They have the rings and they're good size - perfect for us old-eyed folks who need big targets @ 100 yds.
.
.
They are a bit pricey for shipping to Canada , I bought 75 and had them sent to a family member in Florida who drove them home in the spring. I just give these to people at my range when they show up with a pie plate or picture of an animal torn out of Nat Geo .

Poor Canada.

This last 100 years of war, has really managed to mess up the gene pool. Now we're rife with draft-dodgers, ___________ (lol, practically synonymous) and ____________....can I even say that? (edit- no, i bet I can't, haha!) #honesty!

Anyways, another thing I've always wondered, is why the groin area/hip assembly isn't the "trained to" target of choice? Never bothered to google it, let alone mention it. Maybe I will right now.

Most clubs do not want to give the impression that they are paramilitary training grounds as such human targets are frowned upon. Honestly it just gives the wrong impression as to why your there to the fellow shooters on the range.

Just use your imagination and shoot another target maybe a dinosaur or something.

I lauged so hard reading this... Thank you - Best post ever lol

Gonna be drawing a Zombie in a couple of weeks. Not at an official range with all the crap that goes with being official. Firearms unloaded at the line when we go out to change targets. Once everyone is back, it's live. Super complicated.
