Finally happened to me. .. trail cam stolen

I had my game cam, lock box and ground blind walk away a year ago in the Hockley Valley area of Ontario. Wishful thinking, but I would love to cross paths with the dirt bag that walked off with them. I hope he gets struck by lightning while use the blind cause karma's a b!tch.

Had one stolen last week from bear bait, first time ever. I've gotten a couple of hints from people where it's a frequent occurrence;
-if you have a broken one, hang it in an obvious location at same place so the good one takes pics of thief stealing broken one
-get cellular one that sends pics to phone
-hang note by camera saying there are two cameras at location and a picture has been taken.

My camera cost me $350 with the metal case. It's not "just" a camera. I have no sympathy for theft and I despise the attitude of somehow excusing the actions of those who commit it. Pathetic.

Lol, bearklr doesn't understand sarcasm or levity. BTW my camera cost me $351, so who's pathetic now?

I have pulled down a couple of tree stands on my one quarter section a couple of years ago, hunting with out permission ticks me off, I now charge everyone that does it on my land, let the cops sort them out.

Friend of mine has a new one that if in cell range uploads pics as they are taken to the cloud. He can also check the pics any time he wants from his phone on the app that comes with it, I cant remember if he can watch live or not. This may be the way to go in the future so at least you have a pic to give the fish cops/cops.

I too have had mine stolen off my own property. Pissed me off that someone was there and would do that.

A Stolen Camera from Crown Land is bad enough, off one's private property is extremely disturbing, damn trespassing thieves.....

I like that idea. A friend has had a cell cam for a year and it is working great for him. If I ever win the lottery, I'm going to buy a bunch of cams and put trackers in them and place them in several locations so I can have fun telling the cops where the stolen items are...

Had first 1 I bought stolen about 10 years ago. Deffinatly sucks. I was the only person had permission on this farm (which I rented the house on) . The next one I built a box out of 1/8" steel plate with a heavy chain welded to it which wrapped around tree and padlocked. Got a few pics of guys with their face right up to it but never lost it. But with a battery operated grinder and cutting disc even with heavy duty box like it if somebody wanted it bad enough they'd get it.

I had 2 stolen a few years ago from my property. They were only a couple of hundred yards from the house. I have some ideas of who might have been responsible but I'm not sure. The second camera watching the decoy is a good idea.

It sucks when someone steals them. Sorry to hear about it. I lost one on my own land about five years ago, put cable locks on all my cameras since and been ok. Still catch the occasional trespasser out on the land even though all the entry exit points are well signed.

Is there a market for hot trail cams?

A quick check on the local sites shows no semi-literate deeply discounted postings for used trail cams.

Or are they being stolen for personal use?

I think it's a mix of personal use, and other people simply get unnerved when they realize that they've had their pic taken. Trespassing... collecting their fall harvest, etc. They just take the evidence with them.

Its like you need a security camera to watch your trail camera......

Most of my friends always set them up in interlocking pairs.

The first and only time I saw a trail camera on crown land, I got out some paper and sharpie and wrote my phone number with "Looking for Hunting Party. Call me". Got a call 3 weeks later.

We have been hunting for four years now...
