Wanting a ar but something non restricted would be much more practical.

Can anyone point me in the right direction without breaking the bank (used)?

HK SL8-4 with a Hera Arms stock conversion is a good option, I love mine. $1999.99 for the rifle, $410.00 for the conversion and about $100 for the stock hardware. Rifle shoots sub 2" groups at 100 yrds, prob better. It comes with a standard picatinny rail for optics and it's hellishly reliable because it uses a short stroke gas piston system. It'll digest any ammo you feed it and do it with accuracy and style!

Another great option is the X95 if a bullpup is more your flavour but from an accuracy standpoint the HK will always win!

m14, sks, or cz. most of the cheap 556/223 are junk. that is if you dont want to break the bank. acr is great if you can pony up for one.

Pick up a used XCR and call it a day. It still hits the pocket book, but is solid and you can easily get parts, never underestimate self serviceability and parts availability. They're meant to shoot and built rugged and reliable.

Different caliber options too. Opens up more possibilities for you.

OP basically asked " I want an Porsche 911, but need something that can fit a car seat, without breaking the bank" ?

The question may have been asked in the past but the OP is a new member asking a valid question.

I respectfully suggest we all cut him/her a little slack.

It's a hard question to answer without more info from the OP eg. caliber, uses, price range, STANAG mag compatability required, optics or iron? etc.

And welcome to Gunnutz.

Another vote for a pre-loved Tavor, prices are great for these right now and they're pretty awesome.

And another to those who would say "use the search button". We all know the search button sucks, always has. So really, cut the newbies some slack. Don't wanna see the post, scroll over it.

Seriously...you see ones in good condition from reputable sellers going for less than $2000 now. If I was going for more affordable I'd be tempted by a Benelli MR1—although they seem to have their own quirks, they look like the best quality option at the lowest price. At the very low end maybe I'd look at an 858, or maybe a Mini 14.

There are many options available in the EE, what's your budget? I'm assuming you want something that does what an AR15 does; ie: a 5.56 semi that accepts stanag magazines and magnified optics. The MR1 is a good choice, but look into the other options too and make comparisons. I have had my MR1 for many years and I love it, but I ended up buying an M17s over the summer and enjoy shooting it too. I've shot the XCR and they're really nice, I would have considered picking one up if I found an example for less than 1500, which seems to be my budget limit per rifle. T97 is worth a look if you want to keep it cheap and upgrade as you go. I'd steer clear of the SU16, but maybe it's my keltec prejudice.

Define reasonable - the used xcr i bought recently was the budget option compared to the modern varminter I'd been considering. It's all relative. By contrast that may be more than you're willing to spend and a T97 or jr may be to your taste. I would say that whatever you buy do your research first - there are some awesome budget NR sporting rifle options (m14, vz58/858, Jr carbine come to mind) but also some duds. Take advantage of the wealth of knowledge on the forum - a little reading into the quirks or potential drawbacks of the various platforms will save you money and disappointment down the line.

I'm looking for something in .223 and I was hoping to be around the 1000$ mark(am I out to lunch on this). As far as the search function I am not new to forums and I couldn't find anything unless I was getting specific which did me no good because I'm hoping there are more options then the xcr or bullpup.

I had my eye on a nice nea 15 but after a discussion with a good friend I was urged to consider something non restricted thanks to our non sense gun laws.

Am I out to lunch here and need to keep saving or am I somewhat within the ballpark?

Nothing wrong with getting an AR, and you'll be able to get a high quality rifle for way less than $1000, as long as you don't mind range-only use.lots of better options than NEA though.

There are 2 porche's that can fit a car seat nicely. The Porche Cayenne and the 4 door Panamara.

As for the op's question, a new ruger mini 14 would fit the bill nicely. It is probably the cheapest .223 rifle that is respectable. You can also mod the hell out of it to.

troy par is pretty cool if you are ok with a pump action. new are just over 1000. supposedly great accuracy.
