Hello,

I was fortunate enough to acquire Tactical Imports Type 81 production sample as I will be doing videos/media release via my Instagram page @CanadianGunLover.

However, some of you do not have IG, and therefore will be missing out. I am posting some of the photos I have shared via Instagram here.
I have some extensive commentary about the rifle and rail system posted on IG, and will share the videos here as well once posted.

Sorry for the less than stellar photo quality, as it drops from IG to CGN. I have no control over that.

Since I have the rifle in-hand, I figured I would open up a Q&A for anyone with questions about the Type 81, and magazine/furniture/bayonet compatibility.
I can say, the bayonet will not fit without modification on the sample, this is due to a tiny lug on the bayonet itself. Shave it off and it will slide right over, originally this lug was meant for stability with the original barrel length rifles. It is possible they will fit on final production rifles.

AK-47 magazines do not fit. However Type 81 magazines fit in some AK-47's and SKS-D as I have found out (however not all rifles). I believe this is due to AK's with generously sized mag wells.

The wood furniture is not compatible with an AK. However, I can see a lot of accessories that will be coming to market with this rifle, and I wont mention who know, but a company is willing to produce AK-style railed furniture for this rifle, hopefully they follow through with that.
The rifle is durable, rugged, and reliable. It comes apart easily, and is remarkably lightweight and smaller than I had anticipated. The sights are interesting... better than an AK and SKS that's for sure.

Here are some pics, more will be posted as they get uploaded to IG.

The floor is open to questions... :)

Thanks for doing this. Good to hear it's smaller and lighter than what you were expecting. I'd love to see a bit of a range review if you get the chance.

For sure, range review is in the works :) I was worried about the size, because pics don't do this rifle justice... I think it will fill the void between the SKS-AK that everyone wants. If the quality of the final production rifles is on par with the 1990's AK's they were putting out, then these are going to be a home run.

That is really my main interest; getting as close to the AK experience, without all the dreadful mods, stocks, etc. I think some people want to gloss this point over, or pretend like it's not a mitigating sales point to this platform, but I know this community really really wants "our" AK.

Given the popularity of the SKS, the cartridge, and the void missing in our market, I can't imagine the type-81 not being a success.

Having handled and shot Norinco AK's, I have high hopes for the fit and finish of these rifles.

That's awesome that you got the pre production sample! It's a one of a kind and should be highly collectible.
I can't wait for my folder to arrive
Thanx for sharing the pics :)

Exactly :)

It does feel unique, I really like it.

Its been making its rounds around the country. Several parties have had the chance to play with it and post/report on it.

Yes I'm aware of that. Just curious if he has it temporarily or now owns it was what i was getting at

If you place the bayo beside barrel but lined up properly with the lug how close does the knife ring get to the last muzzle ring. My guess is about 1/4"-3/8" short

It is mostly media and large firearms community groups. I have a humble following on social media and do reviews etc., so I got my turn to have it haha
