Thinking about the M78s in 7.62x39. I see one well kitted out in the EE for 14.5k with over 1k worth of mags and stuff, and have a line on another one. What do you guys in the know, think the value of a rifle like this is? Please don't be that guy and say "$1000 because the VZ58, or the Type 81 or whatever. This a collector piece and not your little brothers Tapco SKS. So....what would you say is the going price for these nowadays in the Canadian open market?

Very well made AK variant that is non restricted due to laws!
I don’t own one due to cost prohibitions!
On that note I believe with recent announcements of other Ak style rifles becoming available to the Canadian market might bring entry fee into this platform down!

Wasn't there one that was pending within an hour or two on the EE this past week? IIRC, the asking price was ~7K. I could be way off the mark, but that's sticking out in my mind.

I don't care how "well made" it is, no kalashnikov action semi auto is worth even $5 K #### I wouldn't pay $800 for one regardless of who/what/where or why it was built.
I've shot/handled a friends Valmet in .308. Have also personally shot Russian, Chinese, Hungarian AK-47's, some even in FA with many rounds.
Even got to shoot a full COF test with one (I passed! :D)
The novelty of the AK-47 design wears off pretty quick. Most of the infatuation with them in this country is because of the "can't have, don't ask" status. Most of that is from people who have never handled/and or actually fired one for any period of time.
The Valmets being the rare oddball exception obviously in Canada hence the shiny pony status and ridiculous price tags. Very shiny, well polished, well made Kalashnikov clone. But it's still just a Kalashnikov clone.
The price these things go for in Canada is textbook retarded IMO. Thanks, but even if I could afford a Valmet, I'd take a 20" pencil barrel AR15 any day over any Kalashnikov regardless of make.

If you think the price of these will be effected at all by this.... Laugh2 Laugh2 Laugh2

I would not sell mine for less than 12500.00! And have been contemplating buying the one off "guninators" for 14500.00 crazy yes but who cares how many chances will a guy have to get another. so.... valmets are in our Canadian eyes a special breed and the price is not dependent on standard considerations and usually a lot more than it's actual world value.

I'm curious as to what the asking price is on "the other one ".

Seeing that the Valmet is a red-rifle, you may get some well-educated opinions on this had it been posted in the Red Rifles section. That being said, the Valmets may be arguably the best produced AK's and certainly one of the most collectable. The value is whatever a collector is willing to pay. Look at what SG550's go for in the States as an example. Not uncommon to see them fetch $10K USD and occasionally more in the ball-park of $15K USD. So, the Valmet is probably worth to you whatever you are willing to pay for it.

it will have less and less value when either the t81 or m10x hits the market.

You would have to be obtuse to think that, the VZ58, T81, or M10x are not AK variants like the prohib exempted Valmets.

From a collectors perspective, these rifles will never go down in value unless they are also prohibited, or AK's have the prohibition order removed, or a company pulls off a BCL-102 stunt and manufactures a new mass produced near identical clone that maintains a NR status.

The only thing these new AK wannabes will do is slow down the number of tire kickers that Valmet sellers have to deal with before finding someone genuinely committed.
