first run BCL102 FTE issues

Got myself a BCL102 from the first run, I was very much excited to take it out hunting.

But.... after shooting several different 308. rounds through it from various manufactures and using various mags I am still having FTE almost every other shot causing stove pipes.

Ive checked the extractor and it looks fine so im at a loss right now.

and yes I did search the threads before making this post so if anyone has a link to the answer or has some advice I am all ears (or eyes as it is)

One thing i noticed about nea bolts, very weak ejector springs. I found this on 2 x39 builds. If you can easily depress the ejector with your finger, it is too weak and needs to be replaced. If it is very stiff then it is another issue.
 
thanks lads! If I cant figure it out then I will definelty be sending it back, but its a pain in the a$$ having to do that also. so either the extractor or gas rings eh?

Send it back, I was in the same boat, 2 days and got it back with a brand new BCG all perfect now. I even swapped the barrel on mine and am running it in 6.5creedmoor now :)
 
Is it that the extractor is not picking up the round and it is stuck in the chamber, or is it picking up the spent casing, but the BCG is not going all the way back?

If it is the latter, then it is a under gassing issue. Check your BCG. If you hold you bolt by the lugs, it should hold the carrier in place when the BCG is fully compressed. If it falls free, then the rings are shot, and you will have a under gassing issue. I had the same issue with mine. I sent it back. They replaced the rings. But the cost to ship it back was more than the cost of rings. Another guy here got them to simply mail him new rings.

That being said, my replacement rings are shot again. My BCG is out of specification and I am in the process right now to get it all sorted out, or a new rifle.

Also check your mags for the stovepiping issue. If you use XCR metal mags, they sit lower in the mag well and don't have lips like the MagPul ones. they will leave indentations in your upper receiver.

I had the same problem with all types of ammo every 2-4 rounds. I switched the cam pin with a pof roller cam pin, and no more problems. Occasional fte, and ftf.. But way better now.

The proper test is: remove the firing pin retainer, firing pin, and cam pin; then hold the bolt carrier with the bolt facing down. If the bolt falls out of the carrier under it's own weight, the gas rings are worn out.
 
Contact BCL and expain the problem and ask them to send you a replacement bolt including a couple sets of spare gas rings. They'll probably do it and let you keep the old bolt for spare parts.
NEA used to have that good of a warranty, see if BCL will continue it.

Unfortunately you are only hiding the real problem with a band-aid. A properly built AR does not need a roller cam pin to function. It should make a good rifle smoother not allow a rifle to function.
I would either send your rifle back for warranty or have a competent smith have a look at it.
When you get the rifle back shoot it with the cam pin then replace it with your roller and see what it was designed to do.

It's disappointing to read about these issues. I'd hoped NEA/BCL had learned from their earlier QC "growing pains" and taken steps to ensure that the 102 was absolutely "ready for prime time" -- before being released for retail sales. With a reliable, well-built rifle capable of digesting any ammo and delivering 2-3 MOA they'd absolutely own the NR MSR/big game market.

With shipping and insurance eating the better part of a C-note, I know I wouldn't be happy having to return a new rifle to the factory for warranty repair, especially with no guarantee the problem has been fixed to my satisfaction. I think I'm going to hold off and let the first adopters/beta testers force BCL to clean up their act and ensure that they're selling problem free rifles. I only hope that these growing pains don't negatively affect the ultimate success of the rifle and BCL.

Contact SFRC as they are the warranty depot / distributor.
 
Well it is Halloween so the nightmare always come back. Great to see nothing has changed over there. What is this a movie franchise or tv series.
