I just received my pal in the mail today and bought these two from the local hunting store. The SKS was $229.99 plus tax and the Mosin was $199 plus tax. The SKS is a 1954 and the mosin is a 1932. The mosin stock has seen better days, but as long as it's accurate enough, I'll be happy. Only going to be target shooting with them anyways. Everything matches on the sks except the magazine number. All mosin numbers match though. The SKS pouch is from strike hard gear and the mosin pouch I got from a Canadian seller on ebay. I'm looking to get a 12 gauge Mossberg Maverick 88 next.

I have a maverick 88, and while I prefer the location of the safety over my Mossberg 500, I really don't like the fore end there is no metal slide tube, so the fore end tends to drag on the mag tube and causes a fair bit of resistance while cycling the action, not to mention the "corn cob" style fore end is quite far forward and feels like you are really reaching for it when the action is fully forward. My Mossberg 500 for end actually comes under the receiver when fully to the rear, where the maverick 88 for end sits much farther forward...I recommend at some point getting a metal slide tube and a Mossberg 500 fore end...other than that it has served me well, and has never failed, other than one time with some ammo that also jammed up my 500, my buddy's PA-08, and my other buddy's 870...it was that Winchester white box target stuff they sell by the case at Wal-Mart and Canadian tire with the short aluminum base...nice start to your collection, I too started with an SKS, and maverick 88...didn't get a mosin, but now I wish I did...

I use to take people who never shot before out shooting all the time. Id round up groups of 5 - 10 people from my work place during the summer months. I always brought the same 3 guns out for the new shooters. Ruger 10/22, SKS, and Mosin Nagant. I gave everyone one box of ammo for each gun. Every single person liked the Mosin at the end of the day.

Perfect choice for your first two firearms, You scored big time on the hex mosin. I paid way more for mine. Best part is they are both affordable to shoot and the mosin will make a decent hunting rifle too if you wish to go hunting.
