Hey all,

So I left handguns about 4 years ago do to the ridiculous registration crap. But I'm now working on emigrating to Washington state. Need some opinions on a good reliable single stack 9mm semi-auto carry gun. I have enjoyed many double stacks I've owned throughout the years, sig226, sig229, glock17, glock19 and a few others. However, I've shot a few single stacks recently and they fit my hands much better, so I get tighter groups and more control.

I need reliability, simplicity, and durability. i.e. I don't baby my guns, so anything that requires specialty lube, applied with a special cloth every third night by candle light while you sing kumbaya simply won't do. :)
Thoughts?

As Bob said, the rare single stack Type M Beretta 92 compact. It's almost as thin as a 1911. Mine was neat but mags were too hard to find (in Canada).

What about a 9mm 1911? I love my Commander length, perfect balance and recoil with 9mm in my opinion.

The SIG P239 is pretty sweet too. Mine was deadly accurate for such a short barrel.

Beretta 92 has slim frame, but slide is fat. For an 8 shot 9mm it's huge. Sig P239 is a superb gun, compared to the subcompacts of today, it's also big for an 8 shot pistol. I read on Sig Forums the P239 is being discontinued.

Assuming you are able to buy in USA at some point, Glock 43, Walther PPS, S&W M&P shield are all superb choices for single stack concealable pistol.
I recently bought a Glock 43 with canada threaded barrel, it is tiny and slim. With the issues about being a US resident for 3 months or more before being able to purchase a gun, you may want to look at logistics/legality of buying a G43 here, then swapping a stock short barrel when you move to USA. I have no idea what rules/laws that entails so please confirm for yourself.

S&W model 39. Easy to get and cheap in the states. And they are actually a really sweet gun to shoot

Had the S&W 952 in both 5" and 6" but my P210-6 is a tad more accurate. The most refined and accurate single stack 9mm pistol is the Mauser Parabellum Sport. It's in a league of it's own.

In mid 2018 Radom will resume full scale long awaited production of brand new Vis mod 35 in 9mm Luger.
Most reliable pistol bar none according to Otto Skorzenny and his paratroopers....
I think it would be worth the wait, at least for me....

I have a Radom (early occupation) and while it's a neat, well made gun it doesn't hold a candle to my P210-2 in terms of feel, trigger, accuracy etc. In fairness, I think the Sig is a completely different generation in terms of service pistols.
