Duck hunting from a canoe?

Hey guys, Ontario resident new to hunting here. I'm wondering if hunting duck from a canoe is allowed. Could I canoe down a river looking for ducks?

Yes, it is called "jump shooting," I have done it for four decades and it can be very effective. Once you find a few runs for jump shooting, you will always have action, even when the birds aren't flying. It does help to have a partner (shooter) in the bow while you handle the canoe, but I have also done it alone many, many times. You can also paddle into a stand of cattails and sit over decoys... you just have to keep your center of gravity low... no standing to shoot, unless you have something like a broad Coleman Scanoe... I have done my share of standing and shooting from those.
 
Yup, as hoyt said...jump shooting. It is a whole lot of fun if you don't have decoys. I have been using my kayak for the last two seasons.
 
A punt is better than a canoe, but if you are typing about them, or ordering one of each, make sure you check your spelling, especially if you're slightly dislexic. Getting those first two letters mixed up can lead to some very embarrassing situations. Happened to me one when I E-mailed my brother and asked him to bring up 2 punts and a canoe next time he came up.
 
I used to jump shoot ducks quite a bit back in NB. One tip for you, sneaking AS CLOSE AS POSSIBLE is important... So, cut the corners tightly & when you are close, simply let the paddle slide into the water dropping it while you reach for your shotgun... That way you make no noise putting the paddle down... Once you shoot & collect your ducks, you go back & pick up your dropped paddle...

My daughter and I have used our Scanoe many times as well. Park it in some tall cattails and set out the decoys in front. Works great!

It's a time-honored tradition,but,hunters of today hardly use it. Canoe skills need to be top notch. Always wear a PFD. Carry chest waders but never wear them while in the canoe in case you flip. Chest waders filling with water have drowned many hunters. Keep a survival pack in a water-tight container lashed to the canoe. Always tell someone where you're going and when you plan on returning. Be safe and have fun.

Do you carry a second paddle so you can get back to retrieve the one you dropped?

outside perspective here but why not attach a line to the paddle and the canoe and just drag it ?
