Been thinning out the collection lately in order to set up one decent quality hunting rifle. I would like to stick with a fairly common caliber that would be big enough for moose, elk, black bear yet still make a decent deer rifle. I am limited to left hand and I have checked out a lot of the common brands that produce lefties. I was just curious if anyone had some alternative suggestions for smaller brands to look into that are easy to get in Canada and up to around the 2k mark.

As a left-handed rifle shooter I used to own a Browning BAR semi-auto in 30-06. Good all round caliber for moose and deer.

I also had a Remington 7mm magnum with a left-handed bolt but preferred the semi-auto.

As a left handed shooter I've been through a few, browning, tikka, savage, and then I handled a steyr at the gun show in Calgary.

Some pics of it in the euro hunting rifle thread. I would own another tikka or browning, but not another savage, though they are accurate.

There is the odd sako left handed rifle, if your willing to wait you'll eventually find something you'll love on the EE.

Incidentally I traded some things and will have a Remington SPS in LH 300 WM for sale in a while if your interested

I have owned pretty much all of the manufactures in left hand and have been with a Remington 700 platform as of now but that could change to. If I was to thin the heard I would keep my BDL in 7mm mag and put a lighter stock on it and shoot 160 gr bullets a Winchester 70 would be nice but try finding one at a decent price it would also need a lighter stock too.

i had in the past a very good heym sr20 in 9.3x62 but today i prefer the ruger (hawkeye and 77) and the zastava not the most fancy rifles but workhorse for sure ...

.308win or .30-06?
Browning, CZ, Ruger, Remington, Tikka, Sako.
At 2000$ you may have a custom rifle from Corlane, ATRS or else.

I have a .308 Tikka but have the itch to build something up fancier that I might be able to get better accuracy from. I thought it was more like 4k+ for a custom build...

It depends what you purchase for the build. If you give them your Tikka to rebarrel and bedding or chassis installation you can have a whole new gun for less than 2000$.

A good rifle for the price is a used Remington 700 BDL. Savage Weather Warrior is good rifle at a lesser cost then many other new or newer Factory offerings. Browning used or new. Tikka could ok and they can be seen as light so recoil may vary from other manufacturers. Ruger - used with wood furniture. There are a few options and seeing something at a reasonable asking price can often times be worth the wait.

I've had a few LH rifles. Kimber of Oregon,Remingtons,Montana RC, Winchester, savage,Zasatava, Sako,Browning, Cooper,Weatherby, different Tikka's, Carl Gustav. Most are gone now with my downsizing. I reaaly like the Montana, The Remington and the cooper f. or the smoothness of the action and general accuracy as well as the fit. I'm not including the Rem SPS as a choice. The big disadvantage of the remingtons is trying to find the caliber that you want They have really cut back on choices. The Cooper with the long action is heavy but the 54 actions are a nice rifle. You get the biggest choice in LH guns from the MRC. Clay gets them in qickly.
