Savage MkII - failure to extract

Purchased a new Savage .22 and it extracts and ejects after cleaning until about ten rounds have been fired, then it won't extract the casing. The shells are not stuck as I can pull them out with my fingernail! I have attached a few photos of the bolt if someone recognizes a fault I can correct. I have the same issue with mine too. But it only happens in the winter. The wax coating is the cause, and is no problem in the summer while gopher hunting. In the winter I make sure I use federal as it doesn't seem to have any coatings on the bulk ammo.
 
I remember buying 1 of those in my late teen's and having the same problem. I took off both extractors and stoned them till they went closer together and sharpened the hook of the extractor
 
Take off the extractor, and scrape the carbon away. I find that's what makes them fail to extract. I had sticking issues with SK standard plus, so I wiped off the lube and cleaned the extractor and not an issue since

I can clearly see a ring of carbon around the bolt face. Remove extractor spring and clean the bolt face and extractors.
 
I have not had this issue, yet?? I have a new Savage MK II BRJ .22lr I have shot about 150 rounds through it so far using SK Standard+ and Lapua Center X. Not had any issues, and it groups so nicely with the Lapua.
 
Thanks for the suggestions. As I have 500 rounds of CCI shells, could I remove the wax by tumbling or immersion in some sort of solvent?
 
I have same problem with different kinds of ammo, but most frequently with CCI SV>Winchester M22 > Remington golden > federal target, , but never happen with CCI mini-mag (36gr or 40gr)

I did take bolt apart to clean the extractor; and I notice sometime I forgot to close bolt complete when I fire i don't know whether it is a factor or not, but after I pay attention; now it happens much less often (1 in 30 round to 1 in 200 round).

Also, when it happened to me, it stuck so hard, there is no way I can take it out by hand, and have to use knife to "dig" it out.
 
I only have that problem with Winchester ammo. Blaser and Remington no problem. I did get an extractor kit from Savage but it had no affect with extracting Winchester ammo.

I shoot 3-4 boxes a trip and usually by second trip out I get issues. Usually it's into the 4th box. So I've started to scrape carbon from the extractor/bolt face while waiting for target chagnges.
 
I have a new mark ii g I did have the same problem after a few hundred rounds , (the first few range trips were fine) . When it starting having the casings stay in the chamber I cleaned it and was fine for the next session.
 
"knock on wood"...but I've never had this issue with any rimfire rifle. I have, however, worked on a few that had gummed-up bolt faces, extractors, etc. I have a set of dental picks, and a "gun cleaning" plastic version of the same thing too basically. Part of my process is blasting the bolt face with solvent (Ballistol in recent months)...a vigorous brushing with an old tooth brush, wipe off with a clean rag...then inspect under a bright light. 80% of the time, the solvent wasn't enough, and there is still a waxy residue under the extractor "claws" and often some in the recess on the bolt face. The picks do a stellar job of cleaning those too.

Another thing I've seen lots of guys overlook is the voids on either sides of the barrel that I assume are there to create space for the extractors to expand, and "clip" onto the rim of the cartridge itself. I'm sure they have a name...but my Google mo-jo isn't working for me today. :) Anyhow, I've "brought guns back to life" that were simply gummed-up so badly that the bolt would barely close, wouldn't extract empties, etc. Cleaning the bolt face, extractors, and these "voids" seemed to remedy the issues.
 
My FVSR fails to extract anything CCI. Which sucks because the CCI 40 gr LRN stnd velocity groups the best of anything. I read a lot of threads on many US rimfire forums and the phrase "savage is known for tight chambers" comes up frequently. I've had to learn to accept CCI ammo can no longer accompany me to the range with this rifle and just deal with it.

My FVT on the other hand, no problems. I know its not a bolt or extractor problem because I do the ol' switch-a-roo with the bolts between the two rifles and the problem persists with the FVSR.

I find putting a liberal amount of lube with a q-tip in the chamber gets me about 50 shots off before they start sticking again. Or if I have the time and patience, I will lube up every single casing on the CCI's if I really need them.
