I'm not too particular, it could be semi auto or bolt action.
Iron sights are a must. I'm not interested in anything from Ruger, Remington, Mossberg, or Savage. And nothing tactifool. Been there, done that. Moving on.
Also not into single shot rifles.

So far the only thing that's caught my eye is the CZ 512 and the 455.

Is there anything else I should consider? Or just get a CZ?

Budget is $800ish, but I'd be ok with spending less.

Thanks in advance

iron sights? glass? If glass, is that included in the $800 price tag?

I have a cz 452 Lux and absolutely love it. I had a scope on it for a while but it's a great iron sights plinker and I've reverted back to them. It seemed too much a waste of the rifles potential to use a scope with it.

I really enjoy shooting with iron sights. I typically won't put a scope on anything that I'll be shooting within 150-200 yards.

For your $800, you might be able to pick up a vintage Walther KKJ Sporter (5-shot, bolt-action) with aperture sights.

Plinking and target shooting mostly. Every once in a while I'll do a little gopher shooting. But that's about it.
I'm really just interested in having a quality, accurate .22.

The Thompson Center is something I'll need to look into. My buddy has a Brno, and I've been pestering him for many moons to sell it to me, but he's not interested. It's a very nice rifle, super accurate.

I think a 452 LUX or a BRNO 2E are both superb. Basically the same gun, I'm not sure I could tell them apart...and I own a 2E! :) Personally, stay clear of semis if you genuinely want an accurate rifle. That TC might be the exception, but read-up on them. The BRNO 2E has been a stellar performer even without stellar ammo...so I personally think they're great. I've had a couple of 452s (both Varmint models, one 17HMR, my current one a 22LR) and I love them too, no iron sights though..and pretty heavy barrels for offhand shooting.

There is at least one CGN sponsor with a 452 Lux listed, if you want that model and don't know who I'm talking about...PM me. Yes, you'll use your whole budget buying it as they command top dollar being a discontinued model...but as an iron-sighted gun destined to be a keeper, I honestly don't think you can do better for the money.

As mentioned above you can't go wrong with a CZ , they are a great rifle for the money.
Also for a lot less money a NS522 is a good option. With a little work they can be just as accurate, I have both and depending on the ammo it's hard to pick theme apart from one another.

Ooof. Can o' worms here. Define "accurate"? Group size at 50 yards you're seeking. Given all the brands you've nixed already on line 2, you're looking at CZ, or the used Walther or Anschütz you might find on the EE for your budget.

452 Lux, if you can find one. Prefer that over my CIL/Anschutz 310. Step it up a bit to a 452 Ultra Lux, long bbl and great irons, although mine wears glasses.

A CZ 453 is my first choice with its set trigger,2nd choice the 452. The triggers are easy to tinker with. There is someone here in gunnutz that sells yodave kits that can help you reduce the trigger pull way down( cheap easy fix). If you buy the 512 get one of the newer models with 1 bolt spring it’s much easier to break down and put back together.

Well, not sure I can define how accurate. I suppose something capible of MOA at 50 yards would be pleanty accurate enough.
How about this. Something that can shoot cheap ammo more accurately than a 10/22 shooting target grade.

I just want something that's quality, that will last, and will shoot a fly off a donkey's sphincter. Something I can hand down to my son one day.
I want something that I can appreciate the craftsmanship and engineering that went into building it. Something that's nice to look at.
What I need, is a gentlemen's rifle.

I've looked a little at the Anshultz, but I can't find a dealer. All I've really seen is what's here on the EE. Which is either out of my price range, or it dosent tickle my choda.

For 800 smackers, forget the CZ or CIL, that's enough money for a real Anschutz. Maybe not competition grade but at lease something more accurate than a CZ.

Years ago, International trucks came out with the MXT and made AM General Hummer shard it's pants but because of oil prices and military vehicles not being International's wheel house, the project, which was dubbed "the Hummer killer" was scraped after a year. In the late 1990s, Marlin had one of those moments and made the Marlin 2000. It made Anschutz pee in their pants because for a quarter of the price, Marlin was able to produce a state of the art competition rifle that uses standard Marlin magazines and could out shoot any Anschutz's. It made Anschutz believe in God again but luck would have it for Anschutz because 1, competition rifles wasn't Marlin's wheel house (that would be the lever gun btw) and 2, a new CEO at Marlin meant that cost cutting measure began with R&D.

These Anschutz killers show up ever so often but they certainly do not stay on the market long. I bought mine years ago. Brand new, it came with a hard case, intergraded rail, over size handle, Doppler rear and Globe front with inserts, 3 x five round mags and 2 ten rounders. I paid around $450. Recently I have seen one for sale sporting a nice laminate stock by one of the site sponsors for around $550. Find one of these and slap on a $250, 6 to 24 x50 scope and people will turn their heads. BTW, my 2000 does share a safe with my Anschutzs. They tell me they feel intimidated and triggarded by the thought that there is something better out there.
