Update Post 99!!! Marlin Lever Rifles for thick woods hunting. My two!!!

Less shoulder recoil me thinks.

If that's it, then I have my answer.

The .444 recoil isn't an issue as it doesn't bother me at all.

450yukon and BongoBob, those pics makes me want a full length mag tube for my 444...again...still. :)

If it's not too far off topic, does anyone have any pros/cons 35Rem vs 444?

Still trying to talk myself into the 35Rem... :(

Full length tube should be quite easy to do. Scrounge the gun shows for a 1893/93 tube, plug, tenon & spring. Either 38-55 or 30wcf should work I think. Rims dia .514/.506 I believe.

I have both. Tough choice when heading into the bush but I always seem to grab the 35 Rem. Great round! Bit cheaper to reload for as well.

I've never had a 35 Rem, but my three are an old 44-40 and the main primaries are a 444 and a 45-70. For jacketed in the 444, my 'pick of the litter' is the 265gr Hornady.

Thanks for the replies gents, hope I haven't derailed the thread too far.

The 35Rem interests me as all things Marlin, and oddball calibers, seem to do.

Guess I'll look into it a little farther.

Anybody have a die set they don't use? :p

Those dies ain't gonna hep me none Looky, but I think I found some anyhoo.

You know as well as me and the rest of the folks here that if it was about the money, we'd all be knitting scarves.

But yeah...more bullets per pail of wheel weights is a plus :)

Well thanks to you all I couldn't help myself and added a 1978 336RC in 35Rem to the fold...should be here this week.

So my Marlin bush guns are now 45-70, .444, 35Rem, and if it qualifies, 44mag.

I'm gonna have to buy more bush land :p

Mine are 45-70 SS guide(factory ported), what used to be a 450 Marlin(not anymore a 450), 375 Marlin & the 35. Not counting the 45-70 CB or 44mag that should have been remade to a 375 Huff by now.

I just installed the BearTooth Mercantile stainless cross bolt safety delete & hammer spur! I like it even more!

Now, if I can just find a 1974 Marlin!!! Help a brother out guys!!!

Cheers
Jay

Here is that '74 model I teased you about earlier Jay. Have had it at least 15yrs and never taken it out shooting. I need to work less! Yes, if I ever decide to sell....View attachment 98466

If you ever do decide to sell it 450yukon... My birthday is coming up in January... ;)

Nice looking pair of bush guns... Only thing I see wrong is you got those space age pointy bullets for the 35,... you gotta have the old round nose for the bush,...lol j/k... To me, the 35rem seems to be right at home in the thick woods,.. hard to beat it.

Agreed! Would these work Tobacco Brook? ;) Got them from a good friend & it's only missing 1 or 2 rounds! Gonna have to take a deer with them for sure!!!

Jay.... I bought this Marlin In 75 when I turned 18. I liked the Marlin because that's what my grandfather hunted with, even though the Winchester was twenty five or thirty dollars cheaper. I bought it at a family owned sporting goods store in my hometown (those were the days!).
Shot a few moose and deer with it, and it never let me down. It's probably the same girl your looking for, 35 Rem 1974.

Beautiful coldshot! Does the serial start with a 26######??? If so, it’s a 1974 vintage!

Cheers
