OK GUYS I was posting on a previous FN thread and me and another member started to go off topic there so here it is

Why was the FN prohibited ?

because they can be converted full auto easily ?

or

Because they are a EVIL military rifle and our firearms laws really don't make sense, as you can make all most anything full auto

or ......some other reason

Probably because they were scary looking....You cant posses a FNC1 (cept 15(5))yet you can possses a M14, Kind of like you can buy a ford crown victoria yet you cant buy a mercury grand marquis

AR /M4 variants are restricted, yet you can buy the Mini 14 right off the shelf. The rifle that got all this C68 business rolling and yet it has remained untouched, Im not sure which drugs the lawmakers were smoking or the quantity but you really have to shake your head at times

I think the auto conversion thing is wrong based on the fact that alot of legal firearms are easily converted to full
the IRA used to love to use the 1911 for a sub-gun and I have seen my share of full auto 22s (they were old) and i have even seen a full auto shotgun once (I forget what happened there.

Yup

FNs weren't prohib until Kim Campbell suffered a brain cramp for pure political reason and C68 became a reality. It wasn't single out as the only bad boy black rifle on its own. This is what I remember.

I recall being on a 'Reforger' exercise in Germany (early '80s) and attached to a U.S. Army intelligence battalion in the field during the tactical phase. As I was standing in line for a meal with my C1 slung over my shoulder, an American 'top' approached me and - gesturing towards my rifle - said "...Now that's a rifle!...".

Made my day.

I think that black furniture, pistol grip, detachable magazine, and flashhider/bayonet lug was the criteria at the time for deciding whether we ordinary Canadians could be trusted with such a firearm. Evil EVIL GUN!

I do not believe it has anything to do with the receiver. I've seen film of shoulder mounted full auto 7.62mm firearms and THAT has got to be the biggest waste of time and ammo. These rifles are too light for such a cartridge in sustained firing.

I've used the C2 ...it wasn't meant to be fired from the shoulder in full-auto. Fired from its bipod in controlled bursts (as a trained C2 gunner would do), it was very effective.

Acutally it was "banned" becaUSE OF THE sANTA cLAUSE bANDIT WHO ROBBED A BANKin Toronto years ago. He hid it in a bag and in a Santa suit he robbed a bank.I'm not sure if he shot anyone but the rifle is in the Toronto Police Museum. He painted the barrel end red as it stuck out of his bag. I believe it was stolen from the army.Maybe some one else can remember This JITC

"...you can possses a M14..." Not without the 12(3) ticket you can't. The M305 isn't an M-14. It's a commercial copy just like the M1A.
Same reason other battle rifles were made evil. It's black, has a pistol grip and a 20 round mag.

just before c68 came in I was asked if i wanted a L1A1 FOR 200 ARRGH its kinda like having regrets about that model you didn't sleep with .......Any way I wish we did like the aussies did and made them designated marksman rifles
I heard a rumor we sold some to HAITI
