What would make you quit hunting?

I love hunting, used to go with my dad and have passed on the traditions and hopefully values to my kids and grandkids( granddaughter shot her first mule deer last year under the 'youth hunt' )

Today I mainly like going along, cooking and keeping the camp in order ,and sitting around the campfire ( last year the boys entertained me by giving me a preview of all the stuff they would say at my funeral since I wouldn't be able to hear it...priceless!)

I enjoy the fishing and shooting a few grouse and just plain being outdoors ,but last year I seriously wondered what it would take me to give up ....one factor would be if my hunting partners couldn't go hunting anymore, you don't just replace guys you have gone with for years ,but the other was the experiance we had at hunting camp last year.We pulled into our 'spot' ,set up camp and chatted with a group we recognised from last year, they had a nice camp, were quiet and apart from saying hello, having a beer together they pretty much kept to themselves, you wouldn't know they were there. But a couple of days later. ,several trucks came in, were loud, noisy, ran their generator full time, turned up the music loud ( I hate rap) were drinking and having a marvelous time well into the night ,running all over on their quads.....we packed up and left, this wasn't the experiance we were looking for. I am tempted to buy a section of land somewhere just so we can have it all to ourselves and yes,I will gate the road, put up ' Private Property ,No Trespassing ,No Hunting' signs all over it ...only thing that stops me is the inevitable vandalism of yahoos that respect nothing or nobody. Don't know, maybe it's either that or do a 'fly in' to get some peace and quiet and the experiance I go hunting for.I'm not anti social but I do respect others privacy and don't turn the camp into a zoo but that if anything would make me quit hunting if that's what I have to put up with. Its just not fun....

The invent of the ATV did it for me. Now any lazy bum can go back into the quiet of the bush with his noisy, stinkin' machine, and ruin the serenity I once had.

Megan Markle, apparently! LOL

Seriously, I can’t imagine what wonderful thing might come into my life that could draw me away from hunting. But my gawd, it would have to be wonderful! For now, when once in a while things change or happen that piss me off or negatively affect my hunting experience I just change what/where/when if my hunting and restore a positive experience. 'Adapt and overcome'...

Ive quit hunting whitetail. Too many hunters from out of the area, too many doe tags given out by the CO's for far too many years. The CO's also do their game counts on posted ranch land right were they guy keeps his feed.

Lack of game may be an issue at the rate we're going. NDP in BC outlawed grizzly hunting. What's next cats? Dogs? Once there arent any controls on predators the ungulate population is going to be decimated.

I didn't renew my hunting licence for the first time in almost 50 years after it expired last year. I don't plan on renewing it until that bunch of thieves that calls itself Ontario's government has been kicked to the curb. Hopefully that happens this June.
