I recently purchased my first Restricted firearm (M&P 9) over the Christmas season here in BC, and it seems to me that due to the slow down of the postal service during that time, the transfer process left me with more mail from the RCMP than I expected, and a very curious mailman.

December 8, the transfer was initiated; being my first time I was instructed to email the cfo proof of club membership - done the same day.
Then came a letter asking me to fax them proof of membership, I called and let them know I had already emailed it.
Then came a letter confirming transfer was complete, and I can pick up my firearm after acquiring an ATT.
Then came a letter with a brand new r/PAL along with new special conditions attached.
Then came a letter containing the registration certificate. I assume this will be the last piece of mail.

I went and picked up the gun from the store after the new years with no hiccup.

Now am I good to take my gun to the range or should I be waiting for anything else to come in? IIRC I only need to take my license, special conditions slip of paper, and registration certificate along with the firearm.

2 in 1 newb bonus question: What to feed the new puppy? I looked into some Winchester USA forged thats very cheap ($.26/round) but I heard its very very very dirty and isn't all that great accuracy wise. What are some tried and tested brands?

It's an M&P9. It'll take almost any ammo. Buy what's cheapest.

Personally, I always buy a half dozen different brands and test em out.

And "dirty ammo" isn't a big deal for range guns. We clean them after a thousand or two rounds anyways. If it was a competition gun, then you'll test out all ammo you can find till you find the best grouping.

I shoot alot of a winchester forged and I can pretty much guarantee if your just starting out that ammo isn't going to be the cause of pulled shots. Buy whatever you can for cheap (tenda) and practice as much as your bank account allows.

If lettermail scares your girlfriend....then she might need some counseling.

and I can echo what was said above....your M&P will shoot virtually any factory ammo. Striker fired guns are very forgiving that way. IN terms of what's most accurate, that will take some (like extensive) testing but it also depends just how accurate you want it to be

Like Skoal said, Tenda is going to be your go-to for cheap 9mm. They almost ALWAYS have Blazer Brass (Made by CCI, decent stuff. Not a single issue for me in thousands of rounds) on sale for between $240-$270 per 1,000 rounds. They also do free shipping now over $300, so stock up! Haha. Reloadable case too, if you're into that. Or collect it up and sell it.

And if you have your new RPAL with 'special conditions attached' / the registration certificate for the pistol, you're good for mail from the RCMP. You'll get a few letters every time you buy a restricted (Transfer completed, and the certificate itself. Maybe a notification that the transfer has been initiated? But I always ask them to email me that notification, to speed things up a little)

Keep the little piece of paper with the 'special conditions' on it with you when you're moving restricteds. I laminated mine with packing tape. Like otherrs have said, you're a menace to society without that piece of paper, lol.

You are in BC, CRS in Maple Ridge is a good place to buy ammo, not as cheap as some, but top quality reloads that always work. If you are looking for cheap ammo, many of the site sponsors here have sales quite often, just keep your eyes open and scan the dealer forums often

If you're concerned about your gf seeing mail, or you just want to speed up the process, next time (and every time) you call in to start/complete a transfer with the RCMP, ask to be emailed the Transfer Notification. You'll give them your email and then whenever the CFO approves it, you're not waiting on snail mail to get the firearm mailed off (plus it's electronic, so it's environment friendly!).

One of my consistent "go to" 9mm is Sellier and Bellot 124 gr. I've shot it in a bunch of pistols and it's always shot well for me. I did try some Winchester 147 gr in my M&P that did not group that well—my P226 Legion loves it—so I've sticking with 124 gr and lighter now.

Doesn't help much, they still send you a letter to tell you they are sending you a letter (The notification that the transfer is complete) and then the actual letter. (The registration)

Here's a little tidbit of information for you, ever wonder why all of our registrations come with the additional "Green" piece of paper with your address on it?
Cause one day I got pissed off that I went to all the trouble of having a post office pox and the feds were telling everyone my street address where all of my guns were kept in an envelope the "Canadian Firearms Centre" in big black letters printed on it. Demanded that they stop doing that or if the occasion came that I had been robbed and managed to prove it was because they told the bad guys where my guns where, I would have the charged with "Accessories before the fact". And now everyone gets this great 11.5" by 8" green target to practice their shooting on. LOL

congrats on you M&P purchase......welcome to world of restricted brotherhood...lol

tenda canada has good deals on 9mm

stay safe ..happy shooting

next stop > AR15 - darkside lol:cool:

Just tell her "it's ok they are watching over me now".

They=RCMP the man/woman on a horse that can get to my house to defend or jail me at whim... Per their new supra legislative authority.

Load up deeply on ammo during sale times. Buy only what is required in between. Sales to look for mainly around holidays etc... once you have the ammo you like picked out simply wait for said sale and load up. I get anxious when I'm down to my last hundred rounds of cheap ammo... I will have hoards of the good stuff to hand down to my grandkids because I loath shooting it. S&B Hornady etc fill my bins but surplus and bulk packs often see the most use.

When I called in, I asked the lady if she could just email me the notification and completion letters. She did, but i still got a copy in the mail.
I wonder if they do all the paperwork over email.

I was just going for a clickbaity title

Is it possible to do all the paperwork, except the special conditions slip, over email?

If this is scaring your GF I got some news for ya, wait till your safes start multiplying and ammo crates become the legs for your living room coffee table...Kitchen table becomes reloading bench, camo lined closets...

Given that he already has his new license and the CFO has his membership on file, right away his 4 pieces of mail should be reduced to 2, which can further be reduced to 1 with an emailed TN.

I am sure you already know this, so pardon my redundancy. Make sure you carry a copy(not original) of your registration in your pistol case, your RPAL and the conditions sheet when you venture to the range. All this keeps the children safe.

FWIW, I have only shot brass in my M&P and no reloads. Blazer and Federal are 100%.
