No, the writing at the left lower corner clearly shows that the photo was made on February 13, 1954, so 9 years after the Second World War. I'm unable to understand what the upper line means in Russian. It translates to English: Yaptn. Some acronym? The second line looks like: San. MWA. Definitely these are Soviet officers.

P.S. O.K. Gewehr76 was first. It could be sanatorium in Yalta, indeed. Although, I guess, somewhere in the mountains. I guess that snow at the Black Sea level wouldn't be common.

It says in Russian Ялта . Yalta

By the looks of it. Palm tree with snow. Only can happen in Yalta.
Sanatorium. TVA. 13th of February. 1954.
Some guys on r&r off season?
There is something written in red ink in right top corner as well. Can't make it out as its not clear.

The writing in the corner says:
  1. Yalta-Ялта (a city in Southern Crimea, Russia)
  2. San. means Sanatorium (this is like special free resort with massage therapy, spas, full of docs etc); by the look of the building, I agree, looks like Sanatorium Livadya:

  3. MVD-МВД-Министерство Внутренних Дел-means Ministry of Internal Affairs (POLICE) (to which the Sanatorium belongs), yes, before the war and during the war and soon after this was NKVD (Народный Комиссариат Внутренних Дел)
  4. The date is pretty clearly stated as 13 of February, 1954

Main question is what's the story behind the request of original poster

Is it just me, or is that picture basically of 3 lovers?

It appears the guy in the in the center is either ill or wounded
and using his comrades to steady himself. It looks like a gown/robe
under his coat.

Just for clarity, NKVD (Народный Комиссариат Внутренних Дел, Narodnyi Komissariat Vnutrennikh Del), or simply "NKVD" (НКВД) was established in 1917, disbanded in 1930 and re-established in 1934. After the Second World War, in 1946, NKVD was re-named "Министерство Внутренних Дел-Ministry of Internal Affairs" because all Soviet "Komissariats" at that time were re-named as "Ministries".
NKVD was the most dreaded state security secret police in the former USSR. They executed thousands of Russian and quite a bit of non-Russian people under the pretext of being traitors of communism and/or foreign spies. The most typical method of execution was a shot in a back head with a pistol.
Judging by the age of those stooges in the photo, they, most likely, began their careers in NKVD before it became MVD.

Thanks guys! I got this photo as a free gift with another photo purchase. I knew nothing of the subject and wanted to know if someone had an idea of the subject of the photo... I thought it was WWII period because the photo dosen't "glow" under UV (black) light which means no bleach was used on the paper which usually means 50's and before.

I only collect WWII photos if someone like and want the photo PM me and I can mail it to you.

this is at least disputable at maximum misleading as I was trying to indicate yesterday.
but how politically correct was that to remove my comments and leave this BS re: evil NKVD and Mr Stalin.. this is so ultimate democracy I wanna puke :)
anyhow, the topic approached to its limit: questions re photo answered, except who are those evil former NKVD officers who executed thousands in bad dreams of western propagandists

Nothing related to ###uality. IN East Europe good friends may found in picture like that many times. In 2002 I was first time in visit in Canada (toronto) and I put my hand around the neck of my very good friend, and he told me : "please stop here we are in Canada, people will believe that we are ###"
