For my target rifles, I use the 1-piece rod, bore guide, blah blah. But for my hunting/plinking rifles I use a bore snake with Hoppes and a final pass with oil or ballistol. Once every 6 months or so, I give them a good cleaning with rod and patches. How many of you use bore snakes for non-target toys?

I do not, but will use an Otis pull through on semi-auto rifles though. I just do not like to push brushes or patches from the muzzle.

I own one for every calibre of rifle or shotgun I hunt with and always carry it in my hunting pack.

Doesn't replace real cleaning but in the field I always use it before and after to clean the bore.
Also good to have if you are worried some snow, moisture or dirt got in your bore.

I had on break off in the barrel.
Wouldn’t believe how bad they are to get out
Never again

Never had that happen. I can see where it would be a huge problem. I did have a bronze brush break off in a smokepole. I think it's still in the cabinet.

No but I have a 12g one and an Otis snake, I prefer a cleaning rod. I'd rather pack a 3 piece rod with me when in the bush for an emergency, I only clean my hunting rifles once the season closes so I just uses a reg rod and brush/patches at home.

I have used them for decades. Never had an issue. For one to get stuck, it would have to tear off from both sides. Possible but not likely if you provide a steady gentle pull. And yes I use them on quality rifles. One pull though and your done. Lubes and cleans simply. And no possibility to damage anything...just my two cents..

I use them, but because of how tight they pull through the barrel (one breaking off inside the barrel scares me) I use under size ones. For example I use a 7mm one for my 30 caliber rifles which still seems tight to me. They do a decent job real quick though.

I use one on my SKS. Slow steady pull with no issues. Never had a problem with it. I've got proper rods and brushes for a more thorough clean after.
