The new Tikka T1X Rimfire

This looks interesting. I wonder how much the price will be affected...in a bad way...by the multitude of "Oh my God, I can't wait...take my money NOW!!!" comments that always seem to accompany the release of anything new.

Is the top of the receiver equipped with rimfire 3/8-inch dovetails, or is that the standard Tikka dovetail?

And what about that bolt handle? What's it made of, cheese? A little bit of polish on that would go a long way towards increasing the eye appeal of this gun.
 
I had a G19 Canadian edition on preorder at Wanstalls... But not anymore. Transferred the credit to a T1X in .17 HMR.

Looks like a June delivery. Should still be a few gophers around on the parents farm.
 
A couple questions...

Metal bolt shroud?
Are the hole spacings for the rail the same as t3x spacings? Can I put a t3x EGW rail on this? Or do I need special rail?
Is the recoil lug steel, in line with the t3x?
 
I was able to get my hands on the new Tikka rimfire at Shot Show last week. As for quality, it is as you would expect from Finland. Bolt operation and trigger felt good as well and I could live with the mags. The stock is workable but I would prefer a chassis type of some sort like the Ruger even though it's polymer. I'm sure if Tikka went that route the cost would go up considerably. Overall, it's a real nice rifle but now I have to decide between the Tikka or the Ruger.
 
I'm not sure I'm interpreting this correctly; is this gun using the same stock as the centerfire T3x guns, just with different bottom metal? It's never going to be a looker, so I don't really care about a wood stock for it, but I'll bet it will be a shooter; if it could be dropped into a B&C I think that would make an interesting CZ-beater.

Is it even accurate to refer to the Ruger stock as a "chassis"? It's a molded hunk of plastic...just like this stock and so many others...so the fact that it looks a bit different hardly entitles it to the title. I must admit that the Ruger looked appealing to me when I saw the first picture, but as soon as I read "polymer stock" I lost interest completely. They made a cheap stock to mimic a real chassis, hoping to grab the market that wants to look cool, but doesn't care if that's all it does, i.e. look cool.

Choosing between the Ruger and the Tikka is a no-brainer IMHO...this gun wins.
 
The website claims it can utilize "many" of the T3 accessories.
Still haven't heard anyone selling these, or who have handled ,if the receiver holes are drilled and tapped to the same configuration as the T3s as far as bases or rail fitting.
I would love to know if they are the same. I put my pre order in.
Hands down, more appealing than the ruger trainer.
 
According to numerous sources in USA, deliveries are scheduled for late April/early May. Some dealers are taking pre-orders with guaranteed pay-it-forward prices as low as US$430-ish - a real bargain if ever there was such a thing these days.

Meanwhile, over here in UK, three thousand miles nearer Finland than anybody here, let alone my local dealer in Eugene Oregon, they are being 'offered' for £895 - that's Can$1400 or so.

Two available barrel lengths, according to Tikka website. Apparently it will accept the same grip and fore end options as the T3x, and I seem to remember something about the same stock inletting also. That would mean a T3x Hunter stock should fit. It'll be interesting to see what works and what doesn't once people have the rifle in their hands. The mag looks shorter overall, it may have a different mag well?
I'll wait a bit longer, there may be some early production bugs to be worked out.
