Ok. So I have it set up in this config.

BCL 102 upper/lower
Criterion Hybrid .308 bbl
S.A. adjustable gas block
SLR Helix 11.7" (Ordered 13.5"/will change to that)
AXTS Raptor Charging Handle
Skeletonized grip (Removed to use A2)
Dust cover with 2nd amendment from Tactical expressions
Trigger Tech flat trigger
ARFX tube/stock (Removed, using fab defense)
JP captured buffer
45° No name Irons (removed)
Magpul MLOK AFG
B.A.D.A.S.S. safety
DPMS trigger/hammer pins (soon to be replaced with Anti Walk pins)
Vortex Cantilever offset mount
Vortex Crossfire II 6-24×50 with sunshade (Removed, soon to use Vortex Viper 2.5-10x44)

The only thing left stock right now is the mag release (for now), the BCG (not the bolt) and the take down pins (for now)
The bolt hold back (for now. Will be using a phase 5 V2 soon)

My thoughts are this.

I can't use my QD swivels with the ARFX stock.

Not super pumped with that. I have a QD end plate that I had installed on the BCL buffer tube.

DECIDED: I'm not going to use the ARFX stock. The A2 buffer tube is ok, I just don't want to not have any QD points and have no adjustment.

The Fab Defense wasn't a bad option...

I'm not sure about the grip. It isn't a 100% flush. There is a slight gap at the back. I also have a MIAD with storage core I was considering using.

DECIDED: I'm not going to use the aluminum grip. The A2/MIAD style offers me a flush fit, and more options.

I feel that scope is MASSIVE on this gun. I want a good picture/reticle/magnification for hunting. What would anyone recommend for max 400 yards on this.

DECIDED: I'm going to use a smaller footprint scope, and ditch the irons I've chosen a Vortex Viper 2.5-10x44

I'm waiting on a 5/8×24 end cap/thread protector for the bbl. I don't think I'll be using a muzzle device. What does anyone think of that?

If I change scope, ditch the irons, I'll likely save a bunch of weight...

What are your criticisms and ideas?

HERE'S HOW IT SITS NOW

Minus the scope/irons/ARFX stock and A2 installed

How accurate is it? Does it warrant such a large scope? To me, it feels like scoping a 30-30. You totally can if you want to but the rifles purpose and range is <150. Do these rifles shoot less than 1-2 moa so you can take advantage of the scope? Seems like it would be more of a 10-300 yard gun.

Holy scope batman, I do serious hunting, and the highest power feasible, even with accurate magnums is 5X, 3x9 powers are handy, just to use as a monocular, then I turn it back down to 4 or 5 and hunt up to 600 yards (max range of most guns anyway)

I love seeing guys with 20-40x power, absolutely laughable, no way possible to hold that steady in the wilderness, and nothing for a fov.

And fwiw, I never take black semi's hunting, nor does anyone I know, for good reasons. They are just good for toy shooting, way less accurate and way less reliable then a bolt gun, cold on the hands... But have at 'er... let us know if you ever get anything with it!

You asked for criticism! Lots of mods, not sure if they help or hurt you? But it will be unique! As long as you are happy with the way it turned out.

Need some pictures of your groupings, a couple groupings before the list of upgrades and a couple of groupings after the upgrades would have been really helpful.

As long as the actual BCL/NEA parts in it are minimized, you're good.

EDIT: actually, I'd rock a trijicon 1-6 instead of that behemoth scope, I'd also use a better collapsable stock, like a B5 SOPMOD, and never, ever use a hollow grip, especially one that (looks) aluminum. Stick to rubber or polymer or your hand will get cold really quickly in the winter. In addition, a single point on a rifle that heavy will wear your neck out hecking fast, I'd suggest a padded two point or at minimum something like a BFG Vickers Sling. Just my two cents, ya def did good on getting the NEA parts out of the gun.

I would just take the sunshade off. It will look much better with that configuration.

Alternatively your rifle has a Dr. Jekyl / Mr. Hyde thing going on. It wants to be both a target/DM rifle and a light weight carbine. The two rarely go together well.

I would suggest, taking off the sunshade, putting on the FAB CORE stock pictured and calling it a day for a more Reece style rifle/carbine. Should work well and look great for proportions. Alternatively if this rifle didn't have an adjustable gas block, match barrel (awesome choice on barrel by the way), and target style trigger, I would suggest going for a light weight carbine with a maximum 3-9X scope or less. It would likely work well if weight is the main consideration with how you have it currently configured.

How does it shoot now compared to factory setup? Has there been any increase in accuracy? I agree with the epoxy7's post, in all honesty there is alot going on with that rifle that doesnt really seem to have a purpose other than change for the sake of change.

I like the handguard, and barrel but the exposed gasblock kinda sucks....you should sell me your handguard and buy the 13" one to cover it up :)

Im guessing that's a rifle length gas system? I also have the 11.7 SLR and my gas block in under it.

That is a monster scope for it though. I'm rocking a 4-12x for now. If it's too high powah, I'll step it down to 3-9x

Wow that's a big scope, have you taken it out yet?

Plans were for today, it is still cold as balls and my work has been crazy. Gotta work while I can.

I listed the scope. I think a nice 3-9×40/2.5-10x44 Viper would be better.

I put the fab defense back on now, and listed the scope. I value your opinion. Now that I think of it, it does have a Jekyl/Hyde thing going on.

I keep picturing in my minds eye how well I think it will look, then it turns into a pile of barf because I'm mixing too many things up.

I'm not sure what's more ridiculous, the scope or the Second Amendment dust cover.

I know, I know. I like the 2A quote on the inside. I was planning on covering up the stars and stripes on the outside. I like the USA though.

Personal preference I guess. Thank you for your input though.

I never took it out in factory config. I ditched all NEA parts ASAP

Tell you What, you order the 13", and we'll trade plus I'll give you 50$ because mine is "used" DPMS high Armalite threaded bbl nut. Order direct from SLR. I'm not paying those import fees twice!!

I might just go for this one though...

Yes, I think that's what I'm going to do.

It is the 11.7. It sure is nice, and covered the stock bbl/gas block up nicely. I didn't think about the rifle length gas system on the Criterion...dang

Lol thanks! That was my main goal. Ditch the crappy NEA quality controlled crap. The gas rings on the bolt were HORRIBLE. I need more $$$ for the Trijicon... maybe if I lease my liver or sell a kidney?

I also have a nice padded black sling with the 2x QDswivels. I do find it more comfortable for sure. I wanted to try that 1 point, I'll save it for a .223 rifle I think.

Wow that's a big scope, have you taken it out yet?

No, work and weather has kind of been prohibitive.

I'm not sure why some 102 owners are swapping everything out. I made a few mods but can shoot sub MOA and very happy with the rifle which has run perfectly for 400 rounds.
And this is my do it all...including hunting regardless of what some bush wackers say, like it's too cold to hold on to....hahahahaha

Take a look at the strike eagle optics for a cheap magnified or step up to the 1-6 pst2. That will easily get you to 500 m.

Do you think you need the 12.5 or 13.5 length handguard to cover that gas block? The arfx butt stock really seems like it's worth a try. I was going to grab one from brownells. Where did you get yours?
