Hey guys,
I just started reloading 9mm and I'm a bit confused with suggested OAL. Hornady 1.150"
Hodgdon 1.150"
Campro 1.120"

Checked several forums and it seems that I'm not the only one questionning this data. I also see that some guys load to 1.11"

A buddy of mine mesured different factory cartridges and came back with results varying between 1.148" to 1.164"

I'll be shooting these in a G19 Canadian edition using Titegroup.....when it finaly gets to Canada.

Those OAL values are what 'they' used for those published loads based on whatever barrel they tested with.

You need to figure out the OAL to use for 'your' pistol then find a published load that is using that or near that figure.

Thank you. Well aware of this. I've never had to question myself like this with the other pistol calibers I reload. It just seems to me that there are more variations with 9mm.

Yep, there are quite a few 9mm that require a shorter OAL - CZ 75 and similar are on the top of that list.

FWIW my OAL is for my shortest pistol (CZ75 SP-01) and for me with 124 Campro 1.135 is sufficient. My S&W 1911 in 9mm can take much longer but I don't want to load for 2 lengths.....

I'm also loading 124 grain CamPros for a CZ 75 SP-01 Shadow, and 1.160" functions fine. (I also measured the OAL of some factory 9mm that i knew would run through, and it was around the same length)

I loaded mine to 1.160" when I started until I picked up a Beretta 92F and realized they wont even fit in the mags. I switched to 1.100" at the recommendation of a long time reloader and haven't had an issue yet through an FNS, Glock, Beretta, Para 9mm 1911, or SP-01. Accurate and reliable after 8000rnds or so.

A friend of mine did and came up with this:

AE 1.151 to 1.154
S&B 1.157
PMC 1.148 to 1.151
IMI 1.162 to 1.164
GECO 1.157

In case you weren't aware, the shape of the projectile is a key factor in how the OAL works out. I have Geco ammo, and it works great in my gun, but the shape of the Geco bullet is different than the Campro. Using simple terms, the Geco bullet is more "pointy", and the Campro is more like a football player with no neck. lol! This matters on my Shadow. I'd need to use a shorter OAL with Campro, than Berry. I just load to about 1.13" and it should work in my gun no matter what bullet I use.

Is there a noticable difference in pressure at max load?
