That doesn't surprise me. There's AR15 parts on this gun (short firing pin retainer for one). I think they use whatever parts are laying around.

I don't know specifically how NEA/BCL 'specs' their barrels (ahahahahahahah), but DPMS pattern barrels do use ar15 rifle length gas tubes. Armalite (AR10) pattern barrels have the journal further towards the muzzle and require a longer (armalite) gas tube. I'm assuming since some had gas tubes that were 'too short', NEA/BCL is using the armalite style? (I guess it would make sense being a copy of an Armalite rifle..........but I'd be extending too much credit perhaps)
Been down this path as well. I decided to change to a lightweight Rifle length gas system barrel with the Armalite length (longer) gas tube required. You can see the differences below.

It's always advisable to test-fire first, then change parts. That way, if you have problems with the replaced parts, it's easier to narrow down whether those parts caused the problem, or if the rifle didn't work right in the first place.

My stock 102 wouldn't cycle the bolt, not enough ooph to push the bolt back, which to me is ridiculous from a stock rifle that was supposedly fired for, ugh, 'qc'.
And please guys, the gun = car thing doesn't work. The 102 is 'fresh' off the assembly lines, and has primary-function show stoppers. Most new cars have some issues, sure, but how many that affect it's primary function of going from A to B?
To me, the 102 feels like I just bought a retail game that was still in beta, but with a "Gold version" sticker on it.
Anyways, I'm done fking around with the 102. Can't wait for BCL to fix mine and off it goes. It's been a week, and BCL hasn't even acknowledged my request... This is off to a bad start.

Thanks... I guess I'll order some parts. Insane having to throw $300.00 in odds and ends at a brand new gun.
I'm going to avoid sending mine back to them, unless one of the proprietary parts needs replacing.
Ar's work without adjustable gas blocks, Honda civics also get you form A to B
Youtube adjustable gas block and you'll see why we change them. I rather have a smooth running Ar. Once you fire an Ar with a JP Spring/ Adjustable gas block youll understand
Is like driving a high end car. Once you drive one jumping into your civic is pretty lame after. Same as shooting a Cadex and grabbing a Savage after... lol...

Take a Honda Civic, change a bunch of parts on it, rice it up until it doesn’t run anymore.
Then wrench on it some more until it works, and then when it does run it runs more betta.

Hahahhaah. Ive owned Ars from Colt Canada to NEA and everything in between. NEA is even worse than Norinco. Look at the machine mark on post #24 . for 2 K that shouldn't be there... And that was painted over. imagine if it was blued...
All the issues with stock 102's posted on this forum over the last few months are mind blowing, From loose barrels to rifles that dont even run out of the box, lowers with blown out pins and cant forget out of spec parts and machining thats passed off as " Features " ....
The only reason these are selling is the NR status. It sucks that someone has to drop 300$ on parts to fix a gun thats brand new. But paying shipping to BCL will cost the same. again why is BCL not covering shipping on defective guns ? lol...
And I cant remember what member sent his rifle back to BCL but they didnt even fix it properly.... hahahahahha

I hope I win that ugly white 102, Ill strap it to Tannerite and blow that thing up... lol... Well Id keep the stripped receiver set since that the only 2 good parts on these...lol...
