1911 advice

HI The para get no love. But I have found A Expert that shoots and works well. Not flashy, with cosmetic stuff but a solid shooter for rough use.

As the title says i'm looking into 1911's. Mostly 5 incher, chambered in .45 in the 1000 ball park.

Thing is theres so much manufacturer i'm kinda lost i'm just looking for the best value for my penny in the process.

I think i've looked at them all. So far the S&W e series and the Springfield's are my best bet.

I own the Ruger SR1911. It is in that price range and I have found it to be a good solid reliable and accurate 1911.

Just buy a colt government My first handgun in stainless shot the heck out of it and still do And don’t worry about series 80s never had any issues with the plunger safety

If buying new, and in the 1000-1200 range, I would go for, in order of preference,

- Blued classic Colt Government. They never go out of style and the fit and finish is very very good.
- Stainless S&W E Series.
- Get whatever tickles you the hardest. I find Ruger, Remington and Springfield comparable in quality and find no reason to go for one over the other unless driven by a particular feature or price. Sig is pretty good too and I would rate them better than most if the squarish style works for you.

If not in a hurry - cruise by the EE to see what you can pick up used. Sometimes you may stumble upon a pistol that fits all your criteria and sometimes, for a little more outlay you can end up with something truly high tier for a reasonable price.

I don't find them comparable at all, Springfield's a better built pistol. My "value" choice would definitely be the Ruger SR1911. I'm buying the new 9mm target in the next couple of days, thankfully I was able to hold off until Ruger produced something in 9mm that wasn't lightweight.

At this kind of price you are way better off with a Les BAER, NO PLASTIC PARTS IN THOSE...

You need to give it a break JP. You sound like a broken record on this subject. The STI's are well made, accurate and durable....get over it.

While I'm not sure I'd be a buyer today at $2250 when they retailed for $1450 they represented tremendous value.

Yeah i've contacted 2 in ee no come back.

With all being said some say they're mostly equals others don't (

) i'm tring to figure out wich offer more than the other. As for pricing I stumbled upon older retailer threads/sales and damn the price went up 30-50% since 2013-2016

Springfield makes a really tight gun but the question is do you need your 1911 to be that tight? Is it worth an extra $200 to you? I find the Ruger's accuracy more than acceptable. IRG's sells the Ruger for approximately $1000 CAD and the Springfield RO for approximately $1200 CAD. If I wasn't going to buy one of those two (maybe the Colt Competition too???) I'd jump up to the Dan Wesson Pointman but that's a whole other level of firearm, lol.

I agree. I should have bought an STI many years ago (kicking myself now) but they're a little rich these days. Regardless, they make excellent pistols.

Yeah the needs ! At how much guns it ain't a necessity loI I highly doubt I can complain about the accuracy of those.
It's kinda awkward but today at the range I saw a springfield slide break in 2. No injuries but hell. Probably ammo related.

I’ve owned the Springfield RO, Two Rem enhanced, and shot my buddies Ruger.
The rems were more accurate and had better fit /finishes.

Rem enhanced,Springfield, Ruger.
That’s how I rate them ,from best to worst.
The rem and Springfield have adjustable sites, that’s a big + for me.

Having said that,a SS Colt looks awesome :)

What 1911 do you really want? Which one caught your eye first?
That’s the one you should get.

I’ve always wanted a Colt but always tryed to save a few bucks and bought the others.
And took a loss on the resale
My next 1911 will be a Colt ,SS with adjustable sights.

Compromise is sometimes a pita indeed. But at some point a 1911's a 1911. From what I understand (and correct me if i'm wrong, i'm stating what i think more than a fact) the early 1911a1 were more loose since they were service weapon to allow more reliability under harsh condition and are the most copied/mfg norinco, turkish a,b,c. The s&w e series caught my eyes. I like "plain" look too and there's so many i'd buy them all if my pockets were that deep.
Anyhow advices are appreciated thank y'all.

Slightly used Ruger SR1911s can be had on the EE between 700 and 800$. Colts are nice, I had 6 Series 80s at some point in time. But my Ruger shoots better than any of them, IIRC. My SR1911's fit and finish were also better, even compared to my two Gold Cups.

Is Springfield Armory still made in Brazil?

Frank, sorry to hear that neither of the sellers responded to your inquiry. Its likely because of your 0 feedback. Its not your fault, its just the way Sellers are. Sellers after all, have been warned not to deal with or to just simply avoid Low or 0 feedback Buyers. and Buyers to avoid 0 feedback Sellers.
