I'm planning to try to sell this SKS at the upcoming Spring show here in Calgary. Only one I've ever owned and I haven't been following what's been going on with these since I bought this from a big EE seller about 3 or 4 years ago. It was claimed to be a non-refurb at the time and, from what I can glean here and on Gunboards, that may be true. All stamped matching other than e-p on buttplate. The lack of year/ manufacturer on the left butt, apparently, is OK for '55. So, is this non-refurbed and what would a reasonable selling price be for an unfired '55 Tula in the condition shown? Thanks for any help.

I thought the golden hue on the bayo was a telltale sign that it was a refurb... huh. I removed it from the one I have because the golden hue doesnt go well with the polished 'silver' bolt. Lighting here makes it look yellowish, but it's 'silver'.

Shouldn't the stock have the Tula star plus the date on it by the serial number?
I know the letter guns don't but was sure that the reciever cover dated ones did
Other then that it does look unrefurbed
Lever was selling non refurbed ones for $300 a few weeks back

No star on stock is correct for late 1955. EP on buttplate is also factory marking. Tidy mag pin job. '55 seems to be a rarer year, I'd agree with Robert's evaluation, $350.

Generally if all parts match, it's in its original stock with all cartouches and doesn't bare a refurb marking; then I'd be pretty confident in calling it non-refurb.

Keep in mind people may have tried to fake those features and some of the things I always look for to verify authenticity would be the golden colored bayonet from long term storage, the faded strip of bluing on the top receiver cover, no obvious grinding/sanding of old serial numbers to fake a match.

The rifle OP pictured above almost looks like it has a flat spot around the serial numbers on the butt of the stock where it may have been sanded and re stamped, I could be wrong but the way the light reflects there makes me cautious. The absence of the factory stamp on the stock also makes me cautious.

Refurb or not, she is right purdy, you could probably get $300. Maybe a bit more at a gun show where they don't have to pay for the shipping! I will be selling a few of mine in similar shape at a local gun show next month and will be asking right around $300.! However, ask what you like, the buyers will let you know soon enough if you are too high!

Thanks guys- some good (and some humorous) comments. Gives me a very good idea where I should price it. The flat spot on the right butt also caught my eye- that's why I included that particular shot as the angle of the light made it quite clear. It does give you the impression of a small sanded spot. However, it doesn't appear large enough to have taken out the entire original serial (and, possibly year/ manufacturer) and I can't see a trace of struck out numbers. Somewhat of a moot point as it doesn't sound like it would add much value even if it were all original. As I looked at this rifle today I had some second thoughts about selling- kind of a neat little gun- but trying to get a bit of focus back in my collecting so it and some SVT's are gonna go!

Yea, the band saw could have wobbled a bit going by that spot, is what I was thinking, I have a couple letter series refurbs with the blued bayo and deep blueing all over, the stocks both have the sanded stock divot that hirvgotti was mentioning but the sanded spot was much bigger! I have 2,
55's as that is my birth year, ( yes, I am older than dirt) yours is nice, good luck!
