How Many 358 Winchester Fans Have We Got Here??

Back on OP's topic - two more of my 358Win cousins - I like em (thanks to hoytcanon for the Ruger77 walnut handle).

Whelen B 35 Sambar was first so it has some claim to the "proper" designation and is not close to the 350 Rem Mag. I chose 350WSM (.358" groove dia.) to be consistent with the most popular 300WSM (.308" groove dia.) - and tagged the barrel and die set as such. [IMG said:

Good point Whelen B,.... I never thought about it from that perspective,.. (.277)-270WSM,.. (.308)-300WSM,.. (.358)-350WSM,.. makes good sense,...
now I'm thinking they should have branded the 7mmWSM, 280WSM,.. lol.
Also, if the 35 Sambar was first, it should rank high in the options.

I played with the 250gr Partitions a little bit in my 358win,... but I didn't get the best results with them,.. I tried them with IMR4895, IMR3031, and Win748,.. couldn't get them to group all that well, can't remember for sure what a three shot group measured but I think it was around 1 1/2" to 2" at 50yrds,..
I also did an expansion test with 2lt pop bottles of water @ 30yrds,.... expansion wasn't too bad, but think it could have been a bit better,.. probably would be better on a live target.

I have shot Sub-1/4 MOA groups @ 200 yards (0.45") with my Ruger M77 carbine .358 Win w/225 Partitions and 50.0 grains of Varget... I have posted the pics before, but will post again here if I can find them.

Man I love those savage 99s... Anyone know what a fair price for one is these days? I saw one for like $2300 the other day, I feel like that's a bit steep though lol

interesting pictures.I seem to remember seeing targets like that some where before.LOL

Just wondering about the fired bullets. How easy were they to recover after shooting the bottles full of water.Cannot say that I have ever tried that and was thinking it might be interesting to try it with some of my rifles.

One of my favourite deer loads;
That would get venison on the dinner table. Speer recommend a max of 52grs W748 with their 220gr and a much shorter COAL. So your load seems moderate but I'm guessing it's accurate.

Nowadays few of us have the 200 C-L bullets in either the RN or PSP in supply. Used to be one of the least expensive good hunting bullets one could purchase - with bulk discounts also at one time. I bought 500 at a go from SIR and then Wholesale Sports. Too bad Remington turned off the tap on those to reloaders years ago.

Yup... it is an accurate load. I have about 6 or 7 hundred of the .35 cal 200 SP Core-Lokt left... I am saving them for the .358 Win's as it is a really good balance for the cartridge for medium game. The 350 Rem Mag is feeding on 250 Partitions mostly, although the Hornady 200 RN Interlock is insanely accurate in that M77 MKII Stainless... the No.1-A Whelen is getting the Hornady 250 RN Interlock bullets, which are a nice match.

Interesting Hoyt - I was given best load for my 358 BLR is a 210 primer, 52 grains Win 748, 200gr Hornady SP seated to crimp line, but not crimped. How much of a difference does a 250 primer make?

I found that the load was more consistent with the 250 primer, particularly when the temperature drops... I bowhunt the early season, so my deer loads get used from mid-November through mid-December.

As a sidebar, I find the same thing with the "X57" case cartridges... 250 primers are the ticket with RL-19.

Hey Dan,.. usually the bullets are easy to recover,.. they will either be in one of the bottles, or just laying on the board/table.
