Danish FKF M1 Garand with welded on scope mounts?

Cheaper to swap everything over to a new Italian receiver then to try and clean it up...Tac Teacher could do it at one of the clinics.
A Smith would do it cheap likely too...99% chance it will index and headspace without any additional work needed.

I think this may be the best option. I can always sell the receiver with the mounts.
Just have to decide whether its worth the trouble or just wait for another to come along.

There was one rifle that had the mounts removed. The welded areas were dissoloured after the rifle was re parked. If I remember correctly, these actions were sold off at a great discount years
ago before the cheap Garand actions became available to us. One that was on the EE had a picatinny rail on it, looked ok. It would look good with the right scope.

On a side note, Legit or not, they are not popular and the welds look like hell. Do what Hitzy recommends before the actions are all gone...

I've seen the pics of that or those rifles. What bothers me is those huge welds on the receiver.
Did someone think of heat treatment, warping and metallurgy in that installation?

That receiver would need to be re heat treated by someone that knew what they were doing no?

Does anyone have a pic or three of what the Danish rifle looked like with the correct rail on it?

In the absence of the correct rail, and in the presence of cheap Italian receivers...I know what I'd be doing.

Danes knew what they were doing, it would have been done properly. They are serious marksman at heart.

I think the AN/PVS-1 Night Vision scope was what it was intended for. The scope could be bolted on. The AN/PVS-2 Night Vision slides on to a special dovetail mount.

This is the AN/PVS-1 on an M14.

I'm a mechanic and I own 3 welders and fabricate a fair bit.
Yes the welds could be cut off and smoothed. But it would also need bead blasting, which I can also do.
But the parkerized finish is not something I can do. And I'd like it to be close to the rest of the rifle if possible.

Ricohman, outside of the mounts poking up that is a nice looking rifle. Even nipping off the top halves sticking up would make it a better looker in my books . Just wondering out loud on-line and not telling you what to do or not do

Those brackets are original to the rifle vis the HMK. It's now part of the history of the rifle, grinding them off would to some collectors devalue it. Try trading it on the EE if it's really that displeasing

Personally I'd try to make or have made some kind of base that would allow a conventional scope to be used on it. Given that these welded brackets were done in-service by people that knew what they were doing you should look at them as a plus over a regular Garand. get her set up for a good scope and if you still don't like it it will make it easier to sell.

Yeah, and I bet that the same battery nowadays wouldnt be bigger than one of those camp light batteries.. haha

Kinda like the Doc needing to replace a small IC with 1950's tech and strap it on the hood:

LOL!
If I decide to keep it then I will get the receiver swapped out for a proper example. Unless this is some kind of rarity there is no real reason to keep it looking fugly.

skytte = Shooter

Kamp = Match, Viser = Shows

Kampviser is "Match results" as understood in English

G M/50 is the M1 Garand designation G = Garand, M is Model, 50 is Year

Looks like the VSOMR was the Shooter, most likely a Depot or Militia/Reserve

Thanks for the info.
Never found any type of tag before. It's kind of growing on me this ugly rifle.

I think if I had it I would keep it as is. R711 is right that it is part of the history of the rifle. It is defiantly unique. Not every kid has a garand but almost nobody has one like that.
