What .22 should I get?

I am looking at getting another handgun, and I am looking for something that is super cheap to shoot. I already have a 9mm, so a .22 sounds good. I have read how great and dependable the Ruger Mark 3 is on these forums, but have also seen rave reviews of the SIG Mosquito. Which one should I get? The Ruger or the SIG? Are they the same quality? The SIG has the exact same configuration as the 226, but the Ruger has been around longer. I was also wondering about mag prices, is one more expensive than the other?

Thanks,
Logan

Beretta M76W - very accurate pistol - unheralded older model.
Based on personal experience ( I have two of them)

Or for that matter, the Browning Buckmark. Personally, my only experience with .22 handguns is with my Ruger Mk.1, but I like it- cheap to feed, dead reliable, and a nice trigger right out of the box. I'll be taking mine to the range tomorrow...

Hey Logan

Ghostie did an awesome write up with lots of pictures on the Sig Mosquito vs the Walther P22

http://www.canadiangunnutz.com/forum/showthread.php?t=132068

People have reported a lot of ammo fussiness with the Mosquito and I can confirm that, but you just need to find the ammo it likes. Even the best .22 ammo on the market won't come near the centre fire stuff as far as price goes.

Here is a write up I did about my ammo experiences so far with the Mosquito

X2. I don't own one but a good friend does and we go through BOXES of ammo in an hr because it's so fun to shoot. I'm in the market for one or similar myself soon.

Between the two I'd buy the Ruger. I have a Ruger MkII 6 7/8" slabside. No complaints and I prefer it over my Beretta 87T which was twice the price of my Ruger.....

Is the Walther P22 not in the same class? Any reason you're not considering it?

The P22 is fun, but nowhere near as much gun (I have one of those too...). Basically it's a hoot, but I consider it a "disposable" gun. The Ruger is something that will last many lifetimes, as long as it's taken care of!

I would get the CZ75B in 9mm and then get the .22 Kadet conversion kit. Now thats versitile!

I have a CZ-75 too, and it's great, however the Kadet kit runs $429.99. Heck, for the price of the CZ & the conversion kit, you can get a CZ-75 AND a Ruger! :)

I guess from the above, you can tell which direction I'm going!

Buy the Ruger!!! ;)

I have a Ruger MKIII Hunter.
It's a very nice pistol. The only thing that I don't like are the V-notch sites. I'm actually having mine changed.

My recommendation would be to go for the Ruger MKIII target bull barell (blued). It comes with the good adjustable sights and a bull barel. It's not as flashy but I suspect it would be a real delight to shoot.
It's also about $100 less than the Hunter.

Ya I was looking at getting the Hunter version, and for only a hundered dollars more I will probably get that one. I was looking at mag prices and $55 for a SIG mag is a little too much I think, the Ruger has cheaper mags. I was looking at the S & W 41 too, but it is quite expensive and much more than my budget allows for. I think I have made my decision, anyone know where I can get a Ruger MKIII Hunter and extra mags? I would prefer one of the sponsors, but it can be anybody. I have no good gunshops locally anyway. Stupid Wholesale Sports:(

Thanks,
Logan
