Just curious how many of us still use the old 16 gauge for hunting and what game do you hunt with it.

I still walk tote roads and trails carrying my old 16 for grouse and snow shoe hares.

I have continuously hunted and owned 16 gauges (among other gauges) for just short of 40 years. Grouse, woodcock, rabbits, waterfowl and even deer and one black bear. Never an issue. It is my favourite gauge. I use others but my heart is with the sixteen.

These were the go to in the late 1970's early '80's for me and my buddy. Great memories.

Been using a 16 long ?

Just started last summer with the 16 gauge. Used it for the NAVHDA tests, then for sharptails, and for pheasant now and then. When hunting with my regular hunting partner, the 28 gauge is plenty, but the 16 is a much better backup gun when hunting with people that don't shoot very good. When shooting for the tests, I want to be able to put birds down even at extended ranges where I would pass up shots when hunting.

Learned to hunt with my dad's M12 16 gauge. Got a 16 of my own in 1981, an M12. Now I hunt mostly with doubles. I hunt prairie birds, huns and sharptails as well as ruffs with my 16's.

While I just sold one, I'm about to make an offer on another. Can't have too many. There are two on my wish list that I am constantly on the lookout for, both of which I have 12 gauge versions of.

I shot my first duck with a 16 gauge in 1979. I still use my 16 for all upland hunting. Here that means sharptails and partridge. I also reload for my ithaca pump. I still have a bunch of those imperial number5 shot as well.

We call 'em Larry Long Range. My Labs name is Spec. Short for Special Long Range. Referring to the old C.I.L. No. 5s in 16 gauge. I shoot two Webleys, two Belgians and two singles in 16 gauge. To bad no one makes or could make a true steel proof 16 that would handle like they should. The browning Citori super light feather sort of does but has a short set of barrels.

I have a pre-war Model 12, 16 ga, solid rib, modified choke. . Easy to carry. Winchester built the 16 ga. Model 12 on the 20 ga. frame. The modified choke is great for upland birds. . I use it for grouse and sharptails.

Bought my first new 16ga in 1965 a wingmaster which I have to this day. I love the 16ga next to the 28ga reload it and collect some of them
Nothing expensive or high end
Just some 870 wingmasters, an 870 express, 1100's ,model 12, ithace 37,browning bps upland,301 SXS to name a few
Also have for reloading a mec sizemaster and a Mec 9000g yep they make them and I was reloading enough 16ga to justify ordering in one
Just landed about 6 months ago 2000 vintage new activ 16ga wads and new 16ga 1000 activ hulls and still cannot get the smile off my face :)
Cheers.
