Solid Copper Projectiles

9, 40, 45, 308, 338, 50, 6.5, 260.

Any updated?

Cheers,

We’ll be starting production of solid copper projectiles in the spring.

What calibers would you like to see?

So far we plan on 30, 338, 408, 50 BMG and possibly a few larger ones.

I’m also working on a 9mm/40/45 Hollow Point like the crazy RIP round.

Why would you not use lead, the most efficient material for either bullets or shot, for shooting game to eat, that we could ever hope to use?

What makes it the most efficient?
With barnes ttsx projectiles you can punch bone or take shots through meaty bits with minimal meat damage, and get better pentration and have a pass-through with an excellent blood trail if you do end up needing to track. Calibers that historically were inadequate for some game are now great ones due to the advent of bullet building technology.

With your line of thinking we should all still be using cast lead bullets?

Folks you can't just produce exact replicas of lead-based bullets out of copper, as it takes about 25% more copper to weigh the same. For example a 174 gr 0.303 out of copper will be considerably different than the 174 gr lead-based, bullet you're accustomed to. An exact copy would weigh about 140 grs in copper.

That is fine as a 140 gr to 150 gr copper bullet would be great to load for in .303.....JMO

pardon my ignorance, but what's the point of a full copper boolit?
last I heard the stuff is crazy expensive

The reason is that for big dangerous game, a solid bullet will achieve much more penetration than an expanding bullet. For some reason its really hard to find a heavy full metal jacket bullet for 44 mag or 45/70. Note that you couldn't hunt with these bullets in most places, however they would be great for bear protection.

.312 around 115GR; any 45/70; 357. The light .312" would work in 32/20, 32 S&W through .327 Federal, Tokarev, and 303 British. .323" might be useful too.
