Best .22 LR pistol?

I have a mkIII competition, a buckmark hunter and an AA .22 conversion for glocks. The mkIII was about a hundred more and needed a volquartsen trigger to put it on an even playing field with the buckmark. I find no difference now, but my wife prefers the buckmark. It will eat almost any ammo but gets a bit finicky if it starts to get dirty. Keep it clean and it never stops.

Don’t bother asking about the AA conversion...

a nice small pistol for small hands is a M93 norinco.really inexpensive and mine is reliable and very accurate.
all steel construction but not heavy like a ruger mkII bull barrel (which is reliable, accurate but a pain to reassemble)

How about a Russian MCM like Pricess Leia's?

Look at the Walther PPQ M2 .22LR.

if there’s any chance she’ll get a 9mm after, maybe get a pistol that comes In both 9mm and .22 so that training on one applies to the other.

I have a couple .22 pistols ;)

The best overall Semi-Auto in terms of accuracy, ease of use and takedown to clean is Either the Smith and Wesson 41/ High Standard 106 Easy to clean or detail strip

Next up is a Tie. Buckmark and Ruger MKII. both accurate, love ANY kind of ammo, and a bit of a pain to detail strip. Regular cleaning is simple

Yup, nicely fits the small handed shooter, is cheap to buy and built like a tank.
A great first semi 22.
That and my Ruger Single Six are always the popular ones when I take a buddy to the range.
The Beretta Neos U22 is a nice one if you can get over the Star Wars look.

I have a S&W Model 41 and love it but you don't need to spend that much (around $1,000, used). My friend bought a brand new Buckmark Camper (on sale for about $360) and it's really nice too. The Buckmark has a very nice trigger, better than the Rugers (out of the box). The Buckmark is not quite as accurate, at least for me, as the S&W 41, but it's not far behind. The S&W which has an even better trigger, and the frame is way heavier. But I'd be perfectly satisfied with that Buckmark. It is also completely reliable and undiscriminating about ammo. The S&W is not quite as reliable and finicky about ammo.

Easy to fix the 41's fussiness with ammo. Buckmark's standard sights are a little coarser than the 41's which accounts for some accuracy discrepancy

So what's the fix?

Is yours picky? Fixing it requires me to look it over. The areas I need to see are the bolt and extractor. There are some subtle differences in 41’s of different eras. First production to 73 vintage are easiest to fix. 75-88 are hit and miss. Newer guns 99- present are more painstaking.

If it were really straightforward I could make up a kit and sell it. (Under 13 bucks) But the 75-88 guns were most prolific for Smith. And have a wider variation in tolerances.

Good for maintenance but will not fix the base issue. I have fixed 3 members 41’s on cgn (not frequently online) One was competent enough to be talked thru the process and it was an early gun. The one that hit my bench was 80’s vintage and required more TLC.

PS. I am def NOT a gunsmith. But I am a student of the 41/46 Smiths.

Diagnosing/giving advice on tuning a 41 on the internet is similar to diagnosing a ticking noise in your motor on the internet. Could be a lifter, injector, tappet, oilpopping at a crank bearing etc.
