Martini 310 Cadet bored to 357?

Personally I like the challenge and history of using the original chambering on the old guns. Haven't tried that one but I'm sure the information is out there.

If the bore is buggered too badly I could see boring out. If the bore is okay and a usable dimension maybe just a new chamber and seat the barrel back a turn.
Rebarreling is the next obvious way to go. The benefit of that is being able to put the original barrel back on if ever desired.

I'm trying every so often to get JC interested in reboring, but I believe he said he needs to redesign some part of his equipment to accommodate factory barrels. Perhaps if he had more requests he would take it more seriously.

Yes there is a 6 month wait as i have a marlin 30-30 that wants to become a 38-55 pre-crossbolt safety 1/2 mag.Ron isn't going to be around forever.

Might be simpler to re-barrel using a barrel blank from scratch. And that way any decent gunsmith that does machining can thread and profile the barrel to your tastes.

Does anyone have Ron Smiths phone number? The one I tried was 403 631-2405, the guy that picked up sounded very confused when I asked for Ron Smith and hung up on me. Also one of the Alberta forums mentions a guy name Bob Jury as also doing rebore jobs?

That's the number I have as well.

I had Ron rebore my .310 Cadet to .357 in 2015. Such is life that I'm just getting around to doing proper sighting in now  (I'd originally contacted hm about it at least three years before that!) I don't know how old he is but I think he's certainly "getting on" and slowing down. However, he got it back to me much quicker than he predicted- less than 3 mos. as I recall. He said he just decided to tackle it one day and that was that. Apparently this is a rebore he's done quite a lot over the years. As I recall, he will have to take the rear sight off to fit in his lathe.

He won't be around for ever, though so I hope there's someone else who can do rebores when he retires or passes on. You might PM "pmatuk" here on CGN as he seems to be "Mr. Martini" and has done a lot of conversions.

Mine sat in the cabinet for several years while I pondered that. Eventually I finally ordered a bullet mould from CBE in Australia, and the custom Lee dies- from Western Firearms, also in Oz, because it was actually cheaper to get a set from some that they had had made up by Lee, than for me to order one from Lee in the US! Go figger... All that sat around for a while, then I eventually decided not to go ahead with the project, sold the dies and mould to someone here on CGN and got Ron to rebore it to .357. ("I used to be indecisive, but now I'm not so sure") I ground off the original front sight and put on a Marbles ramp and green FO.

Going a little off-topic (aside from encouraging the OP to have it bored out)...

I finally got her out to the range today for a little sighting in. I had a mix of 158 gr. cast (SWC & RNFP) as well as some Hornady 158 gr XTP, all over a moderate load of 12gr of 2400. Light wasn't the best for a FO sight, (nor was the guy behind the trigger in top form, to be honest) but I was able to keep the bullets in the black of a Midway pistol target at 50m. I'm pretty sure it is more accurate than I am. Very sweet shooting.

I took it over to my buddy's place up the road this afternoon when I went to check the trailcam I had put up, as he's been having coyote problems. (They lost 4 baby goats a couple of weeks ago.)

I had also made a cartridge carrier for it, held on by disc magnets embedded in the wood, with some wide vinyl tape over them to avoid scratching. The holes in the rubber strip are just small enough to provide enough friction to hold the rounds in place.

Back when we were young and stupid, one of my friends had a Martini in .310 Greener. There was no proper ammo available, but we found that .32 S&W long would chamber and fire. Mind you, the fired cases came out looking a little funny.

I'd give Ron a call he just rebarrelled a high wall and did a bunch of other mods to it for me and it did not take that long, I'm actually going to send him another one to re bore from 22WCF to 25-20 as the bore is pitted and head space is not right and I don't feel like cutting new dove tails in the barrel for the hammer spring and the fore arm screw if I was to set it back a turn.

Very nice set up you have there, I am going to have to come up with a plan b.

Ok, I have come up with a plan B, a tapered octagon barrel from green mountain. I was thinking of having it reamed to 357 Maximum, assuming I can shoot 357 mag and 38 special out of it. Does anyone know the best barrel length?

Call Ron and get it in the mix, you will not regret it Its alot easier to reload than the original and especially when you can load alot of different and hot rounds as well. I've had a rebarreled WWGreener Cadet for 35yrs now and it's just a great all around shooter.

Also have a WWGreener in 25-20 made at turn of century, great shooter and beautiful lost art of gun workmanship.
