How many mags for IPSC?

So,what’s the maximum amount of mags preferred?
How many can you fit on a belt?

I just got my order from Ghost and because of a shipping error,on their part, I now have 10 mag pouches.
I’m guessing they threw in 4 extras
I didn’t ask either.

I now have 6 mags and 10 pouches.

Would five cut it?

I have 5 pouches on my belt. Depending on the stage I run full pouches with 1 magazine in the gun or only 4 pouches filled etc.

All depends on the stage. I like having 5 magazine pouches though for long course or in case you have issues and need to do a reload etc.

6 mags and don't be shy about doing a mag change. When you fumble and drop that one mag, reach for another.

have as many as you can afford.....dropped mags, sandy/muddy range, malfunctioning mags, - always have a spare.....better have and not use, than need and don`t have......

Mag pouches, I have 5 on my belt.

Mags themselves, I have at least 10 (18 for my main gun) for each gun I use in competition...it’s always a good idea to have plenty of extras for reasons stated above, plus, if you preload them all and keep them in your range bag, it means less loading between stages. Just don’t mix up the used ones with the fresh ones or you will end up having a lousy stage...lol...ask me how I know.

6 pouches for me, two of which are magnetic ones for first and last pouch. Last magnet pouch is my barney 'cause it just speeds up the LAMR process instead of fumbling to slip that mag into the last pouch.

OP, dp yourself a favour and buy some 1.5" wide adhesive backed velcro and cut/stick the hook side to the inner side of pouches. This will keep your belt from sagging on that side.

Well I never said I was looking for any freebies,
They messed up the order. Took an extra couple weeks, which I had no problems with.
Then I confirmed via email , 6 pouches.

I’m only guessing they threw in a couple of extra ones, because of their mistake.

All divisions except for classic major, 4 mags on the belt + 1 in the gun.
Classic major, 5 mags on the belt + 1 in the gun.

This is my take on it.
I rarely if ever get to unholster last mag in last pouch, can happen in a 32 round long stage if i mess up.

Some people keep an extra pouch on the back of the belt just for the stripper mag so no need to keep it in your pocket.

One mag in the gun.

One stripper mag in pocket.

Extra mags in range bag.

I run 6 pouches, 2 of which (the end ones) have magnets attached for stages with mag pickups, and a total of 6 mags. If there isn't a stage with mag pickups the magnets don't get used.

5 on the belt +1 loader, but I used to goto matches with about 12.
I double the amount of mags when I RO, as sometimes I don't get time to reload the mags between stages. Or I get chatting and completely forget.

So,I thought I got extra mag pouches ,but upon closer inspection ( I opened the bag .
I got 1 mag pouch and what appears to be some kind of different pouch attachment.
I’m not really sure what it’s for.

What’s the purpose of that? Personal preference?
