Recently i met a older gentleman that called it quits to any related gun activity, and among some of the rifles he has for sale there's one that caught my eye, it's a Browning Safari grade in .264 Winchester Magnum.
The price he is asking is not bad at all, i would like to know the pros and cons from people that own or have used this chambering.
Thanks

History has judged the .264 as not much better than the .270 and not as good as the 7mm mag.
If you reload and want a dedicated long range deer rifle it's a pretty good choice.

It's my all time favorite cal. Does everything from gophers to moose. Great for sheep.
Low recoil.
Thy can burn up the throat of the barrle when shot with hot loads or over heated .
But her up if the price is right.

Definitely a caliber that bats above it's bore. Pretty much extinguished by the introduction of the 7 rem mag which could use larger projectile. A forgotten caliber that has benefited by today's projectile and powders. If one does not shoot long strings, over heat the barrel the reputation of a barrel burner is negated.

So can a 243 loaded hot. Any caliber that is ran hard will burn barrels out.

I think a 264 win mag is a great underrated cartridge, especially with todays variety of 6.5 bullets. I would love to own one someday.

Spot on it's funny the 6.5 Creedmore is all the rage and the 264 doesn't cut it give your head a shake the same goes for most of all the old standbys . Scoop it up good cartridge and a great rifle heads above most of the junk being totted these days . My two cents but that's not worth much now days.

Best thing that ever happened to the .264 is Remington stealing it and necking it up 1/2 mm. That doesn't make it bad exactly, it's a better cartridge than many others. I spend quite a bit of time wondering what mine is actually for that can't be done better with one of the energetic 7s.

I just bought another one, which makes my Herters mauser for sale when I ever get around to listing it.

If you compare factory ammo, which is pretty anemic/hard to find, it compares to 270 win. The reality is that it is vastly superior to 270, since to get a true idea of what it can do....you need to reload it.

Reloading won't be a problem, i reload for most of my rifles, so you would say that it is pretty close to the 7mm Rem Mag?

Think 1962 version of 6.5 creedmore. Remington was a more prominent company, introduces 7mag and M700, lots of press, famous writers endorse it....when there was no internet.

More prominent than whom? Weatherby? No way more prominent than Winchester, in sporting rifles at that time there was Winchester and everybody else.
