The price of chokes is getting ridiculous. I'm been mulling over a set of Mullers...:p... but of course the price (compounded by our weak dollar) is holding me back. Then I came across Brain chokes, made in Greece. Their competition chokes are 94 each... and that's in Euros (about $150 CDN)! So I got poking around with my morning coffee and see Kreighoff Ti chokes are $145 USD (must be a luxury tax in that). Seems $150+ each is not uncommon, so makes the $85 USD Mullers seem not too bad.

I've paid well over a hundred for a single waterfowl choke before, but when you have 2x as many barrels and want a variety of chokes that sure adds up. I'm starting to think that until I lose a shoot-off with Mr. Digweed, my factory chokes may be just fine.:rolleyes:
 
A nice side benefit of purchasing used shotguns, is that they often come with extra choke tubes. My K-20 three barrel set came with 17 choke tubes, and with Krieghoff titanium chokes at $140US, and the steel ones at $80US, that is getting close to $2,000 In chokes. My Blaser came with a four Mullers, so I just purchased two more so That I can shoot trap as well as skeet and sporting clays with the same gun. When I want to purchase extra choke tubes, I generally purchase Briley extended chokes, as they are of good quality, and a little more reasonably priced.

Carlson's chokes are about 70$/each.

I like them. The knurled extensions are great for hand tightening and changing without tools. I think they also look good.
 
Many pros shoot fixed chokes... I'm fighting the urge to buy a 'light modified choke.... but in reality will it be much different than i.c. with my shooting ability? I doubt it.
 
I've bought from TrueLock in the US with no issues and Carleson chokes. Truelock is nice if you have an odd make that you cannot find locally.

I've shot a couple of Digweed's courses he set in NS. He never shot though.
 
If your shooting 99's& 100' your not missing a bird or two because of a choke people have bought in to the choke thing fixed chokes are still the best way to go . In the 70's 80's90's I carried AA singles average 98%+ and shot from the 25 yd handicap . Modified choke model 12 and a full choke model 12 for handicap . 1oz 1145fps singles and 1 1/8 oz 1200 fps handicap never lost a bird because of chokes
 
Have you patterned the gun with the factory tube you prefer to see if an up graded tube my be warranted or even necessary. ?? I shot skeet with a fixed choke, trap with a fixed full, and sporting clays with IC tubes, never changed a tube when I shot clays.

I would pattern the gun to see what was happening before I layed out any money on tubes.
 
I run Muller, Briley, and Carlson's aftermarket chokes, and Beretta and Browning factory chokes, and I'd have to say that the best bang for the buck is either the chokes you already have, or if you want to spend the money, go for the Carlson's. Between the aftermarket brands I run they are certainly the best bang for the buck. The Mullers are my favorite, (stupid easy to clean), but are bloody expensive, and at the end of the day, not really worth the premium over the Carlson's. Briley are great too, but were ~$15 more than the Carlson's last time I looked.

Where in the US do you order the Trulock chokes from?

I have tried several brands of aftermarket choke tubes (I like to tinker and waste money). I have, Briley, Carlsons, Muller, Teague, Krieghoff Titanium (and steel), and I have finally realized that the factory ones are usually just as good.
