I've seen the trucks and cops with AR's at most big events in Vancouver the past few years. Ever since the truck attacks started.
I know its B.S. the cops have "patrol carbines" but in our hands they are "assault rifles"
But I like seeing the AR's at events. Gives a false sense of security I geuss. I'd rather have a few cops with AR's then a whole line of cops with 9mm handguns.
These people complain and get triggered or offended, but if #### ever hit the fan. And the cops didn't have the trucks and AR's in place. A lot more lives would be lost. And the same people complaining in that article would be saying "why was nothing more done !"

Victoria Police (BC) carry carbines out in the public for all the major events now. Sign of the times.
Carbines for the short rifles and long rifles for the snipers up on the building tops.
These are still the best weapon to shoot through a windshield and stop an idiot who is using a vehicle as a weapon.
BTW VicPD uses HK G36 Carbines and compact "C" versions for the supervisors.
Their sidearm is the Glock 22 (.40 cal) which I understand is the most common sidearm for municipal police in BC.
Only the RCMP like their S&Ws.

People were complaining about the same rifle being carried by the cops at the G7 summit. Nothing happened so people were scared. If something would've happen that necessitated the "patrol carbine" and it wasnt available, people would've screamed "where were the patrol carbines ?!?"

No one wants to live anywhere with guns on the streets, it is a sign of fear and lack of security.
I agree that it would be great to live somewhere where there are no weapons out on the streets. I just don't think I have been to such a place, and I have travelled some.
I also think there is a difference between a "sign a fear and lack of security" and having respect for the need for "tactical" solutions to maintain security and re-establish security in the event security is challenged.

Almost every country in the world this is normal in a lot of the cities, in USA in NYC multiple sites have heavily armed police at all times, same in Paris and other areas where terrorist actions have happened or are targets. So soon we forget it's a post 9/11 world where terrorist attacks have almost become the norm and these f*cks are bombing, driving cars and slitting throats all over the place (London, Paris, Nice, Concerts with young girls attending, etc.), people should be funneling their anger towards the politicians that are letting the religion of peace take over and are accepting this as normal or part of living in a big city, it just blows my mind. I am not afraid of guns, if anything I feel safer knowing the police are ready to go to shoot these f*ckers that try to terrorize and kill innocent people for just for enjoying and living life.
