Hello there, I have a line on a 1943 barrel dated Underwood, Underwood receiver. The rest might be parts as it has a O.G rebuild stamp on the stock with a number 35 stamped by the oiler sling. It has the early type 1 high wood I stock. All Nice looking in good shape. I read that Underwood is less desirable then others. Seller wants $1200.

They are higher in recent years. My first M1 unristricted barrel Winchester bought in 1980 mail order for less than $200. Now I wish I kept it.

The last 2 that I know of sold for $1200[Postal Meter] and $1400[Inland, SA barrel 1952 included original bayo and scabbard, extra original barrel,].

Is it original configuration or has it gone through post war rebuild? (i.e. bayonet lug, adjustable rear sight) Do you happen to know the serial number? That helps a lot as well.
 
Not an expert by any means - will wait for members like Gunsdora to chime in - but I am pretty sure it's the "Universal" M1 Carbines that have the poor reputation - not the Underwood.

I have an Underwood and it's great! Underwood is a typewriter company, so I always thought it was cool. Other manufacturers pressed into manufacturing M1's during the war included IBM (parts like barrels), Rock-Ola (juke box manufacturer), and the self-explanatory National Postal Meter.

Does the I stock increase value? Only markings are O.G and #35 in sling well. Where there post war I stocks made?

I might have to do pics if seller agrees.

Prices seem to have gone up at a crazy rate for most milsurps but especially the U.S. Garands and carbines. When I bought mine (inland carbine)they were going for about $800.00 (depending on mfg) So $1200.00 might not be far off but try offering $1000.00 maybe. I don't even know what a GI mfg carbine with a NR barrel installed (with NR status) would go for now, last one I saw I think they were asking $1600.00
 
I have a NPM with its original 43’ dated barrel that can send 10rounds into 2 1/2” - 3” at 100m with pretty decent regularity.
The barrel is still in excellent shape.
I can’t speak to the current going rate of a good M1carbine as I thought they were still in the $800 range...but then again I thought Yugo SKSs were still in the $400 range too, so clearly my expectations are dated.

The sling well has a quite large #35 but not on the flat where all maker marks are, the other part to the right. The flat has no markings. The stock between the grip and sling well has O.G clearly stamped in a square. It has the post war bayo lug and rear sight. Something seems off to me regarding this stock based on what other original makers have, but could be wrong.

I just got a usgi rock ola m1 carbine with a non restricted barrel and it was $950. The stock on it is NFG though. It's cracked in six places! A shame as it was the correct rock ola stock :(
Ordered a Springfield armory stock for it from e bay
I agree on the prices for the carbines being crazy nowadays. I overpaid for a Saginaw S'G' a few years back but I guess they are quite rare

Was that purchase online or you saw it in person? That is what I'm worried about, pay high price based on photos and get a dog in the mail. For me a return on this restricted is not a good outcome I think.

The SA stock post war?
 
I got the rock ola of the EE, I knew the stock had crackes in it, just wasn't expecting that many cracks lol, I may try to find someone who can fix it
The Saginaw I did see in person and while it was expensive ($1400!) it did have some desirable features as being a S'G', having the correct flip rear sight and a type 1 barrel band
The EBay SA stock is apparently nos and is from the early 50s so is post war
 
I have a Plainfield m1 carbine that Is restricted. The main reason for getting the rock ola was for the NR barrel on it
Originally I was planning to get the Plainfield fitted with a NR barrel but I will probably sell it off now that I have this one
 
Haven't seen a US GI M1 carbine on the EE for a while. The last ones I sold went for $750 and $800 a couple of yrs ago. Both were Inlands, one restricted,the other non-restricted.

All of the US stuff is getting more expensive. Garands are in the $1600-$1800 range and nice M1903 Springfields are running around $1200.
 
Price varies greatly on the carbines I find. I know what I was offered for mine and I was tempted to sell but where am I going to another to replace them. I have an Inland and 2 Pedersons. The price on the pedersons shocked me. Try finding any original condition m1 carbine and you are lucky to find one under 800 or a 1000. As anything conditions and rarity dictate price so do some homework before you buy or sell.
