I just got a brand new elcan from [Calgary Shooting Centre] a site sponsor during Canada Day Sale.

The scope arrived yesterday, I haven't mount it on anything. it seems pretty good except ... it's finish is rough and seems like...used???

Magnification lever finish is not smooth at all

This is the objective lens, why missing coating here?

very obvious mounting marks, also same for the other side, this should be from "factory testing"?

I contacted the dealer and he told me those marks are from factory testing and every one of those Elcan optics come like this.

If its a regular optics I'd let it go, but I just dont' feel comfortable since its a $2800 scope.

I don't know if I can disclose the name of vendor here, so what do you guys think?

Vender is Calgary Shooting Centre

I have no experience with "Elcan" before, but even my $400 Nikon has no marks and smooth coating upon arrival. I feel like this finish is more or less on par with Norinco.....

Please share your exprience with similiar military optics, it will help, thank you!

I have bought an used one that is in way better condition than yours. Feels like yours is a refurbished... On top of that, I paid 1k less than you did.

yes it is indeed disappointing getting this from a very reputable sponsor here from Calgary.
if its a refurbished, they shouldn't sell as new, right?

Return it. I have the same scope, finish is miles better than that. What’s more it’s built like a tank, to end up with these marks it’s not just from mounting once or twice or even casual use.

Okay I’m disclosing the name of the dealers since multiple people suggested they sold me refurbished unit at full price. So people can be aware of this.

It is not a clone. It is not refurb. We are taking it back and refunding the customer. We are an authorized ELCAN dealer.

I got mine from DS Tactical, certainly did not pay what you paid. Mine may have been a display model though because it was not sealed in the box. I'm not really concerned though, if anything goes wrong with it, those guys would sort it out and Martin's a solid dude.

I see similar wear marks from when I first brought it home.

I don't have a pic of the magnification control lever, but if it breaks, I'm guessing I'd be protected.

In all honesty, the overall finish on it wasn't like any of my Aimpoints or Eotechs. Though the price range of the Elcan would be closer to other riflescopes like S&B and Steiner, it was nowhere near as pretty, but I sort of expected that going in. The outer finish was made to be robust, and since it was so ugly to begin with, I didn't feel bad about abusing it. The glass is still crystal clear and the controls seem to work reliably so for me, that was what I was paying for.

It is a lot of money, so I understand the OP's concerns, but I think it's not completely abnormal for these optics to look like this out of the box.

If I had to guess its a floor demo model. That would explain the mounting wear. Still dont know whats with the mark on the front.

Mine had the same mark, from a different retailer. Might have something to do with the assembly from Elcan would be my guess.

I haven't agreed to a refund... why did you say that...
I bought this on sale and if I take the money buy it from dealer I'll be out of momey...
so why can't you send me a good replacement instead?
