The MG34 Repair and Troubleshooting Thread

Mine's going back to Wolverine to get looked at.
They let me talk to their gunsmith over the phone but there wasn't anything they could really say except for what we talked about here - sear and sear lever issues.

So I'm going to box it up and send it back. Slowly apparently. :D

OK so mine is apparently not going back to Wolverine as they aren't going to honour any kind of warranty because apparently there wasn't one.....
I would have to pay for it out of pocket.
I guess I should have asked - caveat emptor.

Well we can meet up once I move to Alberta, Ill fix her up for you :) Just feed me beer. I got enough spare parts to fix a couple of them.

North Sylva just screwed the shooting community once again. I must say im shocked... lol... I wish I could run my Tile business that way. People pay me for stuff and if it breaks I tell them to go pound sand :)

Ugh - that sucks and am a bit surprised that Wolverine wouldn't make it right.

If I were in your shows, I would order the following kit (remove the space after the h in http below):
h ttp://www.tnwfirearms.com/product-p/mg34-gnpt-0008-nofn-smpk.htm

$250 US but includes all sear parts and spare trigger bar and rollers (nice to have) and another super-strong firing pin spring. You may need to call them directly or order through Wolverine.

You dont want the super strong firing pin spring, Its one of the issues on these. You want a real one.

and all these parts are cheaper on Gunbroker / Ebay just takes some time to find them.

BRP Corp ships and are great guys as well.

what!..? Thats not what i remember them saying the last time they had them for sale.
that sucks. i guess buying used at a lower price is better than buying new if that is the case.

How is yours running DILLIGAF? have you had a chance to take it out since you had issues?

Agree about the firing pin spring - I swapped mine out for an original German one and the gun runs better - 1 or 2 light primer strikes before the parts got worked in.

I haven't seen the TNW-specific parts available for sale on GunBroker - at least for international shipping...the new sear and sear ring are part of the TNW mods. Brian Poling uses a different approach in his design I believe - he didn't seem to have access to these parts when I spoke to him a few months ago...

The sear ring is easy to get made, I have a friend looking at making me a spare Sear assembly because im not paying 140$ for that crap.

Havent had time to take her back out yet.

let us know how it runs when you get a chance to take it out.

Hey Manners, maybe there's something in this that can help? I think if some of these mods are out of spec, it could affect the length your sear needs to be?
unfortunately it seems to be missing some measurements.

Hey Manners, where in Alberta are you at? If your reasonably close to me I could help you out with your mg34. I just had to fix my other one as it piled up on me. I have a few parts on hand for them
Dilligaf, if you get some sear assemblies made let me know and I'll buy one or two, I agree that 140 bucks is a rip off for them

As an MG34 newbie, reading this thread is very informative. I see I have much more to learn.
I do have a couple of questions.
Presently I'm shooting surplus 8mm ammo, and I'm not fond of that ammo.
It appears that it beats the gun up? Unfortunately I have another 480 rounds. Might be chancing it shooting that.
I looks like I have 2 options. Reload for this caliber (pull the surplus apart and use the bullets for reloading?), or do a 308 conversion.
Other questions:
Can anyone recommend a more detailed lubrication guide?
Spare parts I should acquire?

I would suggest reloading the 8mm. You can buy brass and bullets from tradeex or mystic precision
The gun does beat up the brass pretty good. I am on my 5th reload on some brass and it's still good to use
For spare parts I would get a spare sear ring and sear assembly, the piece in the reciever ( not sure what it's called?) that pushes up on the sear to release it, spare bolt parts like rollers, extractors, cartridge stripper, ejectors
Having a spare bolt would be ideal
Wolverine sells a parts lit that has all the semi specific parts in it

The rest of the gun is solid and should hold up good. I suggest replacing the tnw firing pin spring for an original one and get a spare firing pin too

Thanks for the info, keep it coming.
I have a firing pin, 2 firing pin springs (a replacement and a spare) and 2 trigger springs (for spares) coming.
I called Wolverine about getting spare parts. Waiting to hear back from them.
About the surplus ammo, will the lighter firing pin spring work?
Should I take a chance of firing another 480 rounds?
Is it worth it to pull that ammo apart and reuse the bullets (and powder?)
