1650 fps? There's something wrong with your chronograph.
 
50 rounds of 44 mag for my Taylor Alaskan 44 Trapper 92 takedown and my Henry Big Boy stainless in 44 mag.
Hornady 265 grain FP bullet, H110/W296 powder, CCI-350 primers, Hornady cases.
Most accurate 44 mag rifle load I ever loaded.
The Hornady 265 grain FP was designed for the 444 Marlin & doesn't expand much at 44 mag velocities but really don't need to.
Deadly on deer with little meat destruction.

I haven't done serious load development for the 38-55 but can give you the general way I put together my bpcr loads.

Using a mixed lot of Winchester brass which was annealed this winter. I'm using large pistol primers as that seems to be the conventional wisdom these days.
My bullets are from a Lyman mold of about 265gr or a 310gr NEI mold cast from 20-1. Actually it's a half pound of pewter in a 10lb Lee pot. Dragonlube makes something similar to SPG so I've given up making my own lubes. Luber-sizing to .379".
Under the bullet is a cork wad cut from 0.060" valve cover gasket material from the auto parts department. Wad cutters can be from Princess Auto or made from a brass cartridge with the primer pocket drilled out to allow pushing the wads out with a dowel or what have you. I'll probably switch to a fiber 0.030" wad next time I buy material.

With the powder it depends on the case volume but I usually use ffg in most but am using up some Fg in the 40-60. There's no reason that fffg won't work fine though. Will burn a little quicker and cleaner.
I try to seat the bullets out fairly close to the rifling but not so much that chambering is an issue when the bore is dirty. Mostly a trial and error thing. Then I fill the case a bit higher than the base of the bullet. Most of my shells I'm compressing the powder around a quarter inch but it depends on case volume and with fffg you might want less. That amount of powder is weighed and a powder measure is set to throw that much into a funnel on a 24" drop tube. Vibrating the loading block with an electric toothbrush does the same thing.
Wads are placed in the neck and then pressed in place with a powder compression die adjusted to the depth the bullet will be seated at. Generally I don't crimp unless needed for a lever gun or revolver. But some of my brass is so old that it's the only way to keep the bullet from falling out. Those are crimped and set aside for fouling shots.

Sounds like a lot of unusual steps but not bad once you are set up for it. Feel free to ask for clarification and I'm sure the different things other people do probably work well too. This is just the way I throw together a load to get started.

The 180 grain Nosler Accubond & RL-22 make good music together in both 300s.

I tried the 180gr AB with RL22 and it shot ok but nothing like the E-Tip. I also tried the 200gr AB with RL22 and it shot pretty good.

 
Loaded some 6.5x47 Lapua with 129gr SST/H4350, 129gr ABLR/RL16, & 143gr ELDx/RL16. 300wm 180gr AB/RL26, 6.5PRC 140gr AB/RL26 & 143gr ELDx/RL26 and some 338-06 230gr ELDx/Ramshot BigGame.
 
Last night I loaded a series of test loads for my Merkel 450-400 N.E. 3" double rifle. Woodleigh 400 gr. bullets, Hornady brass, Fed 215, and H1000 and IMR 4831 powder. Need to achieve over 2000 fps and regulated so both barrels shoot the same POI at 50 yards - and it would be a bonus if they shot to the point of aim of the fixed rear sight. Loading for a big double is new territory for me, Wish me luck!
 
Git my chrony info last range trip for my Tanfoglio and now I'm thinking of shooting it at next weekend's match.

Loaded up 200rnds of 180gr RN Campro behind 4.7gr of Titegroup. My Chrony showed 4.6gr would put me right on the Major PF bubble with no wiggle room.
 
After many successes with 9, 223, and 308, Tried my first .38 loads . Seemed to work well . Need to test at the range. Titegroup has a small window for min and max loads, but uses almost no powder! Ludicrously cheap to reload, ~18 versus 50 cents a pop from my LGS.

I'm a big fan of titegroup too. A pound of powder is reasonably priced and lasts for ever.
Makes nice light to medium loads in most of my modern handguns. Definitely get in the habit of looking in the cases and checking that you have no double charged shells.

My wife swears I’m ocd when I load the titegroup. Maybe not a bad thing:)
 
Loaded up another 200rnds of 180gr RN Campros with 4.7gr Titegroup at 1.170" OAL. Turns out I had to reseat all my previous rounds that were originally 1.180" because they would jam up in a couple of my Tanfoglio K40 mags. Good thing I found out before my match! That would have sucked.

Just loaded up 50 rounds of 270wsm with 145gr ELDX, Reloader 26, Fed 215m and Nosler brass. It’s the only load I’ve been able to get to shoot in this rifle
