Lifetime .22LR pistol?

Hi,

I already got a decent 9mm (CZ-75B omega). I have quite a bit of .22LR amo laying around, and I'm starting to look at .22LR pistols. The Chiappa is cheap and on sale right now, but reviews aren't great. The GSGs/SIG look nice and I appreciate the full-size 1911 aspect.
The Ruger Mark-type pistols are sweet, to me they are looking like Lugers. They seem solid. Im told that Browning buckmark is good.

If I was to buy only one .22LR pistol, a solid piece that would last forever, what should I shop for? I would say below $700.

Any recommendations for a .22that could be passed on to the kid later in life? Robustness and reliability is the TOP priority here.

A revolver is not out of the equation, but I don't know if they are as reliable (or more) than pistols in rimfire config.

Thoughts?
 
I purchased the Sig Sauer 1911 22. Absolutely love it! I picked it up on sale for $330 new at Cabela’s. it’s made by GSG so either one is fine, just whichever branding you prefer. The only thing to keep in mind is when choosing the ammo to run through it you’ll want something with a higher FPS. Seems well built and looks good too!
 
Ruger I,II, or III, though I'm not a fan, they will last forever. I'd prefer the Buckmark in a new pistol, but you can't beat a used Hi-Standard for durability, reliability, accuracy, and beauty.
 
In 1960 I picked up a Ruger Single Six to ward off snakes in Florida Swamps.
I still own a Flat Gate Single Six.
Still a great gun.

I also own a Ruger bull barrel target model.
Also a great gun.

I also own much more expensive guns.
I have no intention of selling the Rugers.
I will pass them on in my family.

Rugers are good, accurate, reliable firearms, IMHO.

Price range for the new model is anywhere from $480 on upwards. Mine was $650 for the stainless target version. They appear to be easier to clean then the older versions. It is my first 22 pistol and want it to be able to pass on also.
 
My vote would be a Ruger MK IV as well. I have the MK II 22/45 sonit prepares new shooters for the controls and feel of a 1911 which isn’t a bad thing. The MK III’s are considered the worst of the series because of the added safety features by lawyers makes them slightly more complicated no good reason.

My gun range has been using MK I’s for new shooters for years with little to no problems. When I saw that kind of duty use and track record I had no doubt my grandkids will eventually get to shoot my MK II 22/45.

There’s also lots of aftermarket parts for the Ruger MK series and plenty of DIY tutorials on the net. I got my trigger down to 2.5 lbs with very little effort.

I would have included the MK IV if it weren't for it's recall. The I, II, and III have a proven track record, and it's still to soon to know 'bout the IV, IMO.
 
Get the Kadet kit for your CZ-75, built like a tank and reliable as can be! But for a stand alone pistol I would suggest the ruger MK series

You know what that’s a great one! I forgot about that litttle sucker, she is built like a tank too! The only failure I have to report about the beretta 72 is light primer strikes after it gets really really dirty. The only downside is the small grip size and 7 (or 8?) round capacity. I call it my “girls gun”
 
I thought about that, but I also want the .22 pistol as a separate firearm, to get the wife hooked. She liked shooting the 9mm, but if she feels that she's got her own, I'm better off....we all know what im trying to do lol!

The ruger Mark 4 is the new ones easier to clean? That is good. I shot a S&W 422 about 25 years ago and it was sweet and accurate. Too bad they are no longer sold. The Victory pistol doesnt appeal to be...

Wolverine sells a 9 shot 22lr revolver, alfa proj model 251, so CZ basically...might be interesting!
 
I also love my Ruger Mark IV 22/45 Tactical. Full metal version (not aluminum LIght version) - built like a tank, comfortable and accurate. My s/n is after the recall changes, so it's all good, no issues so far. This new version is so easy to field strip for cleaning - so in my books it's a keeper for sure. I shoot it pretty regularly so ask me in a few years about it track record, first 9mnts = zero issues :)
 
I have a Ruger Mk1. After 50 years it is still accurate, solid and has a great trigger.

I also bought the SIG 226 in 22. This is the full size real deal 226. SIG offered a deal at the same time to buy the 40 cal upper. So the pistol is a 40 cal with a 22 option - or a 22 with a 40 option.

Nice pistol, but my son stopped shooting. It was shot once in each caliber. Worked perfectly. So consider this option too.

Well for the wife, my “girls gun” (the beretta 72) would be good for smaller hands. Good and accurate! And its all steel, totally reliable and can be had for $400

Cons: 7-8 round capacity, small sized grip, euro-style “heel button” mag release, plain sights.

Is the frame polymer? I have the mkIV tactical and it has a polymer frame
 
Browning challenger/Buckmark series or the CZ 22Kit for your 75B . The Ruger series is another option. Any K22/Model 17 Smith.

All will outlive your grandchildren.
