Liberals looking at all out handgun/assault rifle ban!

I’m sorry to say but letters are pretty much a waste of time. I worked an internship for a City councilor (one of the good ones that actually care about doing their jobs right) and can tell you exactly how your letter writing works. First we make a folder, then all emails that come in to the councilor are read by interns and helpers and assistants and are put in their respective folders. Possibly a generic email is sent back to the sender, or not and that’s the impact your letter writing makes. And I can promise you, on an issue like guns in Toronto, counciloers are getting more emails saying ban guns then they are saying don’t ban them the wrong people are being targeted.

Before posting a reactionary, submissive or pessimistic response to this unfortunate news, imagine a bunch of Liberal cronies perusing this thread and laughing at the lack of eloquence or commitment to action. If there was ever a time that demanded our political acuity, its now.
Governments like to use heligelian dialect , they the government create a problem look at the public reaction then come up with a solution. The Toronto mayor did create the city a sanctuary city and stopped the stop and frisk. He directly created the problem and is using law abiding gun owners as a scape goat .

No news to me, mayor of Toronto is up for re-election, how about Toronto guns owners start by turfing John Tory's ass out. The reality is it doesn't matter, these people run nothing, they are just puppets put there to give you the illusion you have a choice. Does it really matter who is in charge or what party is in charge? Your taxes always go up, less freedom and everything is on a decline.

If you really wanted to make a statement, its quite simple, NOBODY SHOW up to work for a day or two, whole country just stop. Then you might actually get their attention, letters, e-mails etc doesn't do anything because politicians don't work for you. Here how much more simple do you want me to make it for you?

Everyone who's plan it is to do nothing because it's a "waste of time" or it "makes no difference" should keep their melancholy to themselves. It's pathetic and embarassing.

Failure to protest will absolutely ensure that C-71 passes and there is a full ban on everything. We need to raise a stink...write, donate to the NFA and CCFR, spread the word...if we do nothing we are definitely doomed.

After the Danforth shootings...I've learned not to trust politicians, media, or the police. Anyone who commits a crime with a gun outside of being a white male is immediately labelled mentally ill and is in need of care, coddling and public funding.
The above mentioned groups immediately reach for the low hanging fruit of the legitimate gun owner to provide a panacea for the interests of preserving the public good regardless of how corrupted the optics are of this.
Trudeau and Goodale have the blood of those girls on their hands and they are looking for a quick fix to remove it.
Class action Lawsuit would suffice.

I can't even begin to imagine how much resources it would take to confiscate all of the handguns and semi-automatics (restricted and non-restricted) in Canada! They couldn't run the long gun registry efficiently when it was going. But no government ever thinks that far ahead!

Doesn't matter. These liberals would bankrupt canada to take our guns.

Here's the statement from the Conservatives:

Liberals still failing to keep Canadians safe: Paul-Hus and Motz
August 28, 2018
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Ottawa, ON - Conservative Shadow Minister for Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness, Pierre Paul-Hus and Deputy Conservative Shadow Minister for Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness, Glen Motz, released a statement today following the release of Minister Bill Blair’s mandate letter for Border Security and Organized Crime:
“Conservatives know that the safety of Canadians is the highest responsibility of any government. However, we also know that whenever Liberals attempt to crackdown on gun violence, they end up going after law-abiding firearms owners.
“Firearms owners are already highly vetted. By focusing on them instead of criminals, by ignoring data that shows gun related crime correlating to gang activity and weapons smuggling, and by refusing to address cross-border gun smuggling, the Liberals are failing to keep Canadians safe. Nowhere in the Minister’s mandate letter is any mention of any of these issues.
“Further, the Liberal’s current gun legislation, Bill C-71, still does nothing to address the problem of gun crime. In fact, there is absolutely no mention of the words “gang” or “organized” crime anywhere in the legislation.
“The Liberals have also failed to target criminals by reducing the penalty for gang-related crime to a fine and by not appointing the number of judges needed to keep criminals behind bars.
“They refuse to acknowledge that most guns used to commit crimes are illegally sourced. Justin Trudeau must come up with a fact-based, rational solution for reducing violence in the Canadian context. He has had three years to do so, and has failed.
“Canada’s Conservatives will vigorously oppose a blanket firearms ban on law abiding, highly-vetted Canadians and will instead focus on criminals who illegally obtain guns and use them to commit violence.”

BACKGROUND:
• Statistics Canada found that 54 per cent of firearms homicides were gang-related.
• 78 per cent of violent crimes in Canada did not involve a weapon.
• According to Statistics Canada, the general population is 3 times more likely to be involved in firearms crime than a licensed gun owner.
QUOTES FROM STAKEHOLDERS:

"I'm not sure if a complete ban is the answer. " RCMP Commissioner Brenda Lucki, August 18, 2018

“It would be unmanageable and unfair to the majority of handgun owners who obey the law and always use their guns safely. Let’s effectively deal with the criminals that do not obey the current criminal law.” – Chris Lewis, former OPP Chief, August 18, 2018

“… Even if we make them more illegal than they already are, criminals will still come into possession of them, and still use them for illegal purposes.” Adam Palmer, CACP President, August 15, 2018

I always read that same line in these threads, but no one ever really spells out exactly what they mean when they say that. Until it is clarified, one can only assume that it implies that the gun owner is willing to literally fight to the death with whomever comes looking for their guns whether it be the police or military or otherwise. Big talk, and this would not be another scene in a video game.
Maybe someone with a chip on his shoulder, could go all the way and use a scoped hunting Rifle, that has a Samson complex and the Libs would have to ban Hunting rifles.

This ^^^ is what I needed to start my Wednesday. All that noise yesterday had me tied in a knot.

Doesn't matter. These liberals would bankrupt canada to take our guns.

These two goals aren't mutually exclusive, and in fact they are planning on doing both!

You can't socially engineer people when they have money, and it gets pretty darn risky when they have the means to fight back.

Gulag Archipelago 2.0, playing out in slo-mo.

My guess is it wouldnt be too difficult. There is already a restricted registry. If you don’t voluntarily hand them in you are in possession of an illegal firearm are now 1) wanted by police and 2) dont get your PAL renewed. My guess is the majority of people (no matter how tough and “from my cold dead hands” they talk) will hand these firearms in to still have the ability to keep their .22 plinkers. It would be harder to ban non-restricteds. Or even harder, banning the illegal unregistered guns in possession by criminals *gasp*

If this happens mass non-compliance will be the best form of action. To comply is to surrender. But to each their own.

The comments on the CBC article are troubling. The brain-washing of the average Canadian is almost complete.
