I have some hornady custom 308 once fired brass item number 8098 that won't fit large rifle primer
Is this normal? Looks like it takes small rifle primers

Any info appreciated

Hornady Match .308 has crimped primers. Assuming the .223 does too...
Is it new or fired brass.
I know Lapua has Palma small rifle primer brass, but I don't think Hornady does..

It's hornady custom 168 grain BTSP item number 8098 once fired brass 308 winchester

When I try and seat a large rifle primers it sticks out or won't even seat

Yep, I have the same ammo. Just need to ream with primer pocket reamer tool. There are plenty of company are making them like Hornady and RCBS.

Most likely culprit is a crimped primer pocket. The RCBS Trim Mate™ Military Crimp Remover-2 does a fantastic job for this task. Large crimp remover for the large primer in 308 Winchester.

I don't see a crimp in primer pocket I just tried my chamfer tool and no luck..I think it might actually be a small rifle primer..I emailed Hornady...

You probably already have a chamfer tool of some sort, I used the lee one for my hornady brass with crimped primer pockets and it worked fine until I got a counter sink/drill to clean it up a bit faster
