Just wondering what the best and most reliable .22lr ammo there is for a semi. In your guys collective experience. It will be used in an Stg44. Good deals on right now for ammo, so I'd like to stock up on something that works. Thank you.

Stingers by CCI work in everything I have ever put them in. In my experience G.S.G rifles and pistols perfer high to “hyper “ velocity rounds 1250 f.p.s or more. But as with all things user results may vary.

My semies (pistol and rifles) like Federal AutoMatch; my bolt actions and my old winchester pump like CCI Standard velocity or Eley Match.

Federal Bulk pack 525rds, there not the most accurate rounds but they work in everything and they burn cleaner than the Automatch 325 packs.
top of the line CCI !

just ensure that whatever you shoot its high velocity to cycle the action as standard is often too light.

Yes, the function will, but accuracy leaves a bit to be desired. A .22 likes a heavier bullet moving slower, not light bullets moving faster. Likely something to do with the rifling. I had a 1911 .22 GSG conversion kit, and it would only run on stingers and mini-mags producing 8" groups at 20 yards while my High Standard will give me 3-4" groups consistently. GSG kit jammed on every, single automatch. I no longer own the kit, but I love my HS!

Rifle or pistol; very inconsistent. Some hot and some very soft... not as bad as Remington golden or Thunder-Crap; not even close to that bad!!!

Automatch is a bit dirty in rifles, but in pistols; not an issue.

Federal Value CPHP runs perfect in everything. While Auto-match is less consistent it still works just fine in all of my guns. I use both in any of my guns. The reason I recommend Federal Value Packs is that they generally burn well, almost always work typically 1 or less misfire per box and less than 2 jams. So long as your not accuracy obsessed this ammo works well enough. Also most often it is the cheapest or one of the cheapest ammo types available (currently $31.99 @ gotenda), hard to beat that price point for plinking rounds. I would not hunt with it as there is better more accurate ammo. Makes for general mixmaster ammo that just works and doesn't cost too much.

I completely agree about Remington, the Thunderbolt stuck in the chambers of every gun above. Even the Single Six! Its a shame that they spoil the brand name with their poor 22lr.

I really like CCI ammo, and find that their mini-mag ammo works well in the semi-autos I've used it in. I like Stingers too, but they are too expensive for plinking, and use them for gopher shooting.

In my Beretta 71 pistol I tried Winchester 36gr CPHP. Half the time the first round of the mag would jam on the feed ramp or above the chamber.

Using Federal Value Pack CPHP now and I've had no problems. The HP tip is much more contoured than the Winchester, I assume this helps in feeding.

Federal bulk pack 525 as mentioned above. I've had good luck with American Eagle 36 and 38 grain plated bullets.
CCI minimags work very well, slightly more expensive than both the choices above.
The ammo not to buy would be anything Remington and most Winchester

This works best with my STG44. Never failed.
I suspect that any ammo with solid bullets would work.
I have tried hollow point ammo of three different brands. That was a complete disaster.
