Just picked up my brand new HK MR223A3 11inch. Was wondering any of you guy know where to source an surefire muzzle device, or the HK giessele trigger? Or is it worth it for the upgrade ?
Would regular AR threaded muzzle device work ?
Was also thinking to go the HK416 clone build, what is the difference between the MR223A3 and the HK416?

Bad news it’s a metric thread barrel vs imperial, which makes it more difficult to source & as for the trigger it’s your choice but considering it’s going to cost you $628 plus tax/shipping - I would say buy two cases of ammo and breakin your new MR223A3 / I have one also and the trigger isn’t that bad at all.

The 416 has a full auto carrier and no notch on the BCG or a "notch" on the barrel extension.

Does Surefire do metric? I'm sure Gadget can answer that?

And 2 cases of ammo will just "break in that barrel" LOL ;)

Enjoy

So no trigger for me then. Gonna try to find the muzzle device. How do you guy recommend breaking in the gun ? Clean every 10 shot for the first 100 ?

Geissele make great triggers just maybe not $600 great for a HK carbine?

Well "break in" would depend on your firing schedule, piston guns don't get that dirty in the BCG, and "cleaning" is subjective, some do it after every range session and others when the rifle stops working?

With 5rd mags I'm guessing the latter won't really affect you for a couple of yrs.

Every range trip includes at least 200-500rd of 223/556. Was gonna shoot 10 round then clean the barrel and give it a wipe down for the first 100 rd. Or is that even necessary?

I doubt that's necessary, just shoot it, if you want to clean the bore at the end of the range session, sure, use a bore guide, you can wipe down the piston and BCG with a bit of solvent and re-lube. Don't get too aggressive on the piston and damage the rings.

Oh ya buy a chamber brush.

Cheers

Okay just take it easy, and clean it after the range trip . Thanks for the help! Much appreciated:)

You have one of the best barrels out there, invest in a bore guide, and a decent rod, jag, bore brush etc. Use good bore cleaner, and well, with regular maintenance, that barrel will out last you, LOL.

Yup I have an boresnake, and I run cotton pads after the snake till is white. I use breakthrough solutions. Just spray and clean the rest then finish on the barrel. After researching more the geissele trigger doesn’t allow safety when hammer is down so no geissele for me since I like that feature

Since you are kind of talking about upgrades and parts for the HK MRs, I wont start a new thread.

I now have the HK MRs in both the 308 and 223 flavors:

I hate the look of the bird cage, so I got a surefire on the 223 and a AAC on the 308.
I've removed the HK diopter rear sight and replaced with folding ones.
I've replaced the pistol grip on the 308 with a Magpul MOE+ and I've got one coming for the 223 as well.
The 223 will also be getting a raptor charging handle.

i've tried to replace the stock on the 223 with a magpul STR. Its a really tight fit and basically makes it a fixed stock, so I decided not to go that way.

The goal for the 308 is as accurate as possible. Any suggestions for upgrades? Only thing I can think of is the Giessele trigger, but I also dont think the stock one is bad at all.
The goal of the 223 is as light as possible. Also looking for suggestions. The Giessele rail seems to be popular, but it offers no weight savings at all.

Surefire makes a flash hider specifically in 15x1. You can get that and attach directly. Or you can buy an adapter like I did with the AAC. CTCS has the adapter.

Never tried black hills ammo. How does it compare vs FGMM?

KAC 2 stage match triggers fit and work in MR223's / 416's. That's what I have in mine. Cheaper than the geiselie ones and maybe better.

The kac 2 stage match trigger is definetly an upgrade over the stock hk trigger but it doesn't even compare to a gueiselle. Their enhance trigger break like a glass rod.

I have the Geissele Trigger in my MR223A3 and must agree with the quoted assessment. The Rail is good kit as well.

I don’t know how you rock such an big optic on an 11inch gun but it works. I was thinking to MRO was too big but damn the Elcan works on this. I have an RAL8000 gun, do you guys think an black surefire M600 would work or I need an FDE ?

I ran an Elcan Spectre DR on mine and won the 500 yrd run down portion of the ORA SVC a few months a go, using AE Xm855 in a steel can.

The only non-factory part is the SEI G6 vortex that had replaced the factory muzzle device.

I only shoot HK these days in SVC. They are the most consistently precise guns with mass produced factory military ball ammunition.
